I am very excited to announce a new major project from legendary developer Ken Hall - Boulder City Municipal Airport! A true labor of love for Ken and meticulously crafted over two years; Boulder City sits 2,203 feet above sea level surrounded by vast desert to the south and Boulder City to the north.

Situated just south of the fabulous Las Vegas, Boulder City Municipal Airport is the perfect base to start your sightseeing tours of the Grand Canyon, Hoover Dam and Lake Mead. Those who love to explore natural beauty within the simulators will be fully immersed with the extensive coverage area provided by this vibrant airport.

Ken has brought his obsessive attention to detail to this locally iconic airport, ensuring each uniquely textured static aircraft, hanger and airport building is truly authentic and realistic. Everything has been designed specifically for Boulder City to give you a taste of what it really feels like to be in the humid desert. All primary features are modeled in full PBR glory, with ground textures hand-drawn and dozens of unique vegetation types created solely for this project.

Each year, over 100,000 departures take to the skies from Boulder City Municipal Airport offering scenic tours far and wide, including over the nearby mountain ranges. Whether you choose to take a light aircraft across the desert plains or a helicopter, the airport functions perfectly for both.

Boulder City Municipal Airport features a comprehensive coverage area outside of the airport, encompassing the entirety of Boulder City, Hoover Dam, sections of Lake Mead and even the outskirts of Las Vegas. Explore local golf courses, casinos, hotels and more, leading to a seamless experience as you depart for the Grand Canyon.

  • Depiction of the old Boulder City Airport (closed)
  • A short hop to other scenic destinations such as Vegas, Sedona, Palm Springs, Monument Valley and St George

COMPATIBILITY

Boulder City Municipal Airport is designed to best blend and be used with Orbx Southern California, however it has also been designed to work with only Global Base, or Global Base + OpenLC North America. It should also be noted that, alongside other Orbx products, Boulder City uses a legacy ICAO code (61B) due to limitations with the Prepar3D scenery engine.

Be sure to keep an eye on the forums and our social media over the coming week for even more details and info on this expansive project!

Wow... got my attention on this one.

Will their be any be any enhancements to the Grand Canyon itself.  At present I use the Oz scenery for the Grand Canyon and it’s very nice.

I’ve not seen theOzx version must check it out, would look great in True Earth

Ken Hall!

Not much else need be said.

Where's the lawn mower hidden I wonder:)

1st day purchase.

Not much grass to mow around this neck of the woods, if there was I’m sure “Tim the Toolman “ would have one with a Rolls Royce Merlin powered beast drag racing on the closed runway 8)

Very Impressive indeed!  Is the photo scenery recent enough to include the new Interstate 11 bypass around Boulder City, which opened in August 2018?

Yes it has been added, we had to work with older imagery for most of the PR, but we did manage to source some imagery with the new bypass in late construction, more than enough to use as a Nav aid.

This is amazing!

I know this place well.  Used to go and visit all the time when our family was vacationing in 'Vegas.   Now that I have the helicopter and P3Dv4 is running well, I'm very much up for this!

Thank you

Lee

Now what do you recommend for a Grand Canyon addon to go with this?

I already bought Orbx Global and Global NA - and yes, I need to update my signature!

Grab Southern California, theres a lot of good airports in that region and they will all look better, I think its on special at the moment, I you like choppers this is place .

I will check if thee are any grand Canyon repaints for the choppers and the otter.

cheers

@Ken Hall I don't know why I just realized this, but are we acknowledging that Boulder City is now KBVU and not 61B?  That change up creates a fair bit of conflict with navdata update products.  I've managed to overcome the issues, but it didn't come without headache.  In any event, I'm really looking forward to this which now appears imminent.

Do you mean that the latest Navigraph is not including KBVU Boulder yet ?

Dom

I'm sure it does.  What I am talking about are users of FSAerodata or Aero.Sors where the default navdata is made current.  When you have a default airport's ICAO identifier being different than the Orbx ICAO identifier, it causes very noticeable issues like elevation errors, double runways, etc.  So when the default navdata updates to KBVU and Orbx is still calling it 61B, then it creates those issues.  I don't think it will be an issue with this product, because the Orbx airport products tend to have good exclusions in them.  That said though, if you load up looking for BVU, you may not find it as it may still be 61B.
