How old are your cars and what make are they?

Recommended Posts

I'll start off.  I have an 18 year old Ford Escort with all the trimmings that I bought when we still had some money.  Apart from a few rust bubbles here and there its still very comfortable and works and drives perfectly.   Mind you, we've only done just over 60,000 miles in it so I'm reckoning it'll see us out.

Worries me a bit when my son comes to visit though.  He always gives it a thorough look over so I make sure I keep the keys safely away in my pocket!

My wife and I have two cars. One is a 2014 Honda Accord that we use as the daily-driver.  The other is a 1957 Corvette that I've owned for 61 years. And, I keep the keys to the 'vette away from my son too (and always have) :) ..........Doug

I have 2 cars. My daily is a 2008 Honda Jazz I bought used from someone that barely drove it and kept it in the garage for its first 7 years. This was a very good find.

My other car is a 1989 Honda Civic I bought for $1000 and I am slowly restoring it. This one is my 5th of this type of car because they go forever. I always said if society was to collapse that old 89 Civic would be the last running car in the world. Modern Honda's are not as reliable.

You're right about the older Honda cars. The first Honda we bought was back in 1992. I sold it to a friend some years later and it's still running. The last I heard (2014) the car had been driven 347,000 miles, still had the original engine and transmission, and didn't burn a drop of oil..........Doug

1984 Peugeot 505 STI Sedan with a 2001 Ford Ghia Fairlane as a backup - the former is nearly run-in as it approaches mostly trouble free 500000 kms - the latter lives up to its reputation at 234000 kms of "Fix Or Repair Daily" but is a very nice car nonetheless.

I've vome to the conclusion that some of you are just plain greedy.   3 cars?   Must be quite a dilemma when going to the shops to decide which one to get in!

we have a 2017 Mercedes C220 AMG....don't use it much as we both have our own vans for work but it certainly tows our caravan around easily.....the choice is the wife's as she is really into sporty cars and if we had the money she would probably have an Audi R8 and then spend most of her time as a passenger being driven around...

Awe gosh Lawrence. I fell for it I had to check it out. In all seriousness I wish I were under your command as your wing man wherever you flew in battle.

Never had a wingman....I was a Forward air Controller and we just snuck around alone killing monkeys with WP rockets. (no ethnic slur intended there, they were real monkeys....I kind of respected the NVA....very tenacious bunch.)

Ridiculous war....it would have pissed me off to have been killed in it.

Flight simming is great fun......nobody shoots at you.

The thing with flight sims these days is that folks like ORBX keep rolling out these programs that take longer to load than an actual combat mission.

I have a few older cars, 1974 Holden Torana SLR  512kms since rebuild,

1998 C240 elegance 125000 kms and 220000 kms on a 2007 Toyota Aurion.  or for anyone out of Australia, a V6 Camry!

The Holden is not driven often, I drive the Mercedes twice a week, the Toyota every day.

  • 3 weeks later...

When I graduated from St AndrewsUniversity in 1955 I bought a 1940 Morris Series E tourer for £50; it did 50 miles to the pint of oil and full of rust holes.  Articled on a hydro project in the north of Scotland for a year and completely rebuilt the car and sold it for £170 (but spent £110 on parts).

I have had convertibles ever since and now in the tenth year of a 2009 Beetle convertible - light silver with red interior and roof – a real “chick magnet” but when they pester me I tell them they are 50 years too late!
