I have to say, even without the benefit of having a full FTX region or even an OLC, I've found using Global+Vector (and FS Global Mesh) can give me some surprisingly nice scenery in some places. This shot is shortly after takeoff from WAMM above the North Sulawesi region of Indonesia near Manado. Scenery looks pretty good considering it is not in a full FTX region, nor within an Open LC area.
