Thank goodness.  I was worried and had begun to think I had outlived everyone here.

Come on someone.  Think of something to say, even if its only something we can all have an argument, err, discussion about!

Aston Martin is better than both, Bentley is better than any American cars and quantity gives way to quality every time!

Oh and as I've said before,  the English are best too.

I have been recovering from a move from my beloved West Texas desert to Baton Rouge, LA and the rain that comes with it.

Last September it became obvious to me that I was not going to be able to continue to live alone and accepted my son's constant pleas to move in with him.

I left my 2 acres and traded it in for a 9x12 room and I have been trying to fit my stuff into that small space.

A new flight sim setup and all of the problems that come with it.

I will try to be more attentive to the group.

You forgot to mention the mechanic that is required to keep them going

My best wishes Dale for now and the future. Keep your elevator trimmed and your powder dry, if I may mix metaphors.

Unless, of course, you're Irish. My many-times-great grandfather, Abner O'Casey, arrived here in what eventually came to be known as The Colonies in 1632. And it's a well known fact in my family that Dale's right about English cars. They even had trouble back then with the English boats....:)

Dale, over the past six years, I have watched the fences contract and life get smaller. One bit of advice I was given has really helped. A counselor said, "Just respect your limits and find your joy within them." I really took that to heart and have tried to live that way and, oddly enough, am more content now than ever in my life. Best of luck to you, my friend.

Lawrence I must say that we downunder get a lot of financial assistance from governments for the medical treatment of our ageing bodies.  It is my former high taxes at work, and I am delighted I paid them.  So for old age, the second law is postponed.  However the Reaper will arrive.  Rodger I do find, after having lived and worked in the States, our system just a little bit more socially (not socialist) compassionate.  Of course our very rich complain of having to pay the taxes which they claim to be exorbitant, although they can write the private jet off against business expenses!  And Dale, I can only reinforce Rodger's wise comment, my wife and I downsized, we are happy with our new limits and it took very little time to adjust we found. Get the sim going, I find a good flight each day is great therapy, and I have a mobility scooter which gets me to the local shops and coffee often enough to give my family a break.

As it happens, I hold a Republic of Ireland passport, most of my family are Irish, from Tipperary and Galway, and my father had Flemish blood, so  I am a bit of a mongrel actually!

1. Everyday, start the day by giving thanks that you have your own private room and a son who loves you.

2. Everyday, get out of your room and do something kind for someone else.

3. Everyday, get on this forum and disagree with John York about something (cf above).

4. Everyday, end the day by giving thanks that you have your own private room and a son who loves you.

A friend of my wife calls it "Life's diminishing boxes"

You go from a big house to an apartment then to a a couple of rooms in a retirement village then to a room in a care centre then finally into a funeral casket.

I am in an apartment now having sold my big house on the harbour some years ago.

Cheers

Ken

That's a coincidence Dale, but that size of 9 x 12 is the same size as the room I'm in now and spend most of my time in.  I suspect your room is in metres? Whereas mine's in feet and inches.  It also comes equipped with a bed in case my wife chucks me out!

Now find something to disagree with me about Rodger.

'I am a bit of a mongrel actually!'  'Woof woof' Fizelle.  But I want to be a Labrador/Retriever.

Oh dear now that's reminded me of that old schoolboy joke: A poodle walks up to a scruffy mongrel and asks in a posh bark if he has a family tree. The mongrel replies "Na mate, we go anywhere!"

Johnny, I'm a Yank and it's feet, inches, yards, and miles here.

What s crew this is.

A happy go lucky bunch, hangar flying and sharing our past life, all the while knowing that we are all passengers on the same plane, flying West, parachutes on, awaiting our turn at the door.

I am so glad to be here with you, so while we wait, have another round on me.

Some time ago, teecee wrote; 'In truth, I love being old and being able to do whatever I want whenever I want to'.  I think I agreed with that at the time and I still want to be old but not this old!  I'll be 86 in a week or so and frankly, I'm now getting worried!  Its all passing far to quickly for my liking.:(

From my old AF flight school instructor:

"Always remember to stay relaxed, or you'll die all tensed up and aggravate the funeral home people."

Dale, I drank my round and told the bartender that a guy in Louisiana was covering the bill. Please come and pay my bail.

Hello Rodger,

how can I clarify without revealing the content of the posts?

I expect that most people have a view of politics and politicians.

I certainly do but here is not the place to share it.

I understand your dilemma. Again, thanks for reminding us that the ORBX Forums are to lift us up not tear us down.

Nick:  your political antenae must be sensitive, I've hunted for such an implication.  The only one I happened to note is "Oh and as I've said before,  the English are best too."

That is not political, just stupidly wrong.(LOL)

It's not my quote; it's from Flanders and Swann (old time 1950s etc music hall), where they were parodying the English attitude towards everything. And the English are very good at self-parody (vis a vis Monty Python et al).

"A Song of Patriotic Prejudice"—a parody of patriotic songs ("The English, the English, the English are best/I wouldn't give tuppence for all of the rest")

They were incredibly popular. Flanders was quoted as saying,  "The purpose of satire, it has been rightly said, is to strip off the veneer of comforting illusion and cosy half-truth. And our job, as I see it, is to put it back again".

A Wiki link is attached: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Flanders_and_Swann

Mike Flanders was a wheelchair user having contracted Polio in the 1940s and helped to make disabled people appear "normal" as public figures.

So just to clarify - I wasn't making any political statements! And I hope I have brought Flanders and Swann to a new audience - there's loads on YouTube..

Hope that's OK Nick?

Hello,

I removed four posts and yours was included only because it quoted John's

and would have made no sense without the other three posts.

Please understand that it's my job to point out the rules and one of them is

Posts containing religious, political, sexual, discriminatory, or otherwise controversial/offensive content are not allowed and will result in an instant ban.

There was nothing bad at all but it's a path that we cannot even start to go down in these forums.

To John, apology accepted.:)

I think it was probably my comment on a matter of actual history that was unfortunate rather than the history itself?

Terry, I respectfully disagree. We have had a great deal of fun wandering around in the dark wondering just what we were talking about. That's Old Coot at its best.
