Introducing L70 Agua Dulce Airport for SCA!

Recommended Posts

Hi all,

This is a side project which I have been working on for the past few weeks, so that people have another place in SCA to fly out of :) If all goes well, you should have this within the next week.

Features include:

- Over 200km sq of crisp photoreal terrain to expore

Advanced AO baking techniques for realistic shadowing

- Super high resolution mesh for incredible definition of rocks, mountains and terrain!

- Custom vegetation at airport

- TextureFlow optimized and includes most Flow technologies

- Challenging mountainous terrain makes for a very interesting approach

- Optimized for high performance using similar techniques to KSTS

And much more!

A special thanks to Jordan King for taking time to drive up and get me photo sources of the airport, twice after the first set was lost! Thanks mate!

Hi Mischa,

What are you meaning with "Super high resolution mesh for incredible definition of rocks, mountains and terrain!"?

Is it better than FTX FS Global 2010?

Btw, this is a new great project in approaching!

Yes it is, I have sourced my own mesh for this project from a very high resolution source, so the terrain has better definition than either FS Global 2010 or the SCA mesh can offer.

It is a very good choice Misha, at the border between desert and the urban SCA. I started from there a couple of times and I welcome some improvements to SCA default.

What do you mean by" Advanced AO baking techniques for realistic shadowing".  Is there a possibility that your baked in shadows go to one direction when P3Dv3 will orient is shadows toward another direction ?

Very nice. One request for the CP...in that second to last shot, can you make that static plane in the hangar be turned on or off? Having planes that can be hand towed like the C182, Comanche, Cub etc...its nice to be able to "hangar" them when one bases their plane out of a field.  Love what they did with the KBLU scenery where they made it a starting spot. As a user, its just nice have one open hangar available to use as a personal one to store your plane.

Hey, this looks like a great choice for a small GA airport, love the location.  Small town feel just outside LA, up in the mountains a bit.

Looks like you have been busy the last few weeks, Misha.  Definitely looking good.

That's not how ambient occlusion (AO) works. It not about where the sunlight is coming from, but rather how recessed out otherwise occluded a surface is. For airport buildings, the most obvious location for this kind of shadowing is under the eaves. Ambient occlusion is essentially adding the dark places you see on a cloudy day.

A stunning set of images of a well-chosen location with outstanding mesh resolution, love the looks of it. As much of SCA they do seem to need some rain so "agua dulce" is a most appropriate name and location. A great start to 2016 and I look forward to seeing it up close in my sim.

Misha

For what its worth - in the 15th shot down there is a field like a "fat L",  to the left of the 3 huts on the top  LHS of the taxiway. [Its the field to the right of the field with the lone tree in the middle]

In an aerial photo of the airport taken March 8th, 2014 that I have seen, this shows up almost emerald green.

Rest of landscape is  washed out as you are showing it.

Not sure if its a crop or what, but it stands out like dogs b-lls from the air. Very distinctive landscape feature.

If you need more info will ref you the shot.

If this is a side job, I can almost imagine what else you're working on...  ;)

I'm with you, Bruce.  I think I know what it is, and can't wait for it to be released as well...

There are 3 open hangars, and one of them has no static aircraft in it, so you will have a space to park your plane :)
