I am thrilled to announce Rijeka International Airport, the latest Adriatic resort destination from acclaimed developer Rasha Tucakov! Following on from his highly successful work on BelgradeDubrovnik, and Pula - and just a short flight away from all three - Rijeka is situated along the stunning Croatian coastline. 

 

The airport serves both the city of Rijeka, as well as the multitude of beach resorts located nearby. Since its opening in 1970, the airport has catered primarily to the leisure market, and these days is served by low-cost and legacy airlines to destinations across Europe, the UK and Israel. Whilst regular visitors include A320s, 737s, E-Jets, L-410s and 757s, the airport is also host to a plethora of corporate traffic, alongside the occasional 747 and MD11 cargo flights. A Croatian Air Force Mi-17 (which has been modeled in the scenery) is based at Rijeka and remnants of the old military base can be found at the northern end of the field. 

 

Perhaps the most well-known feature of the airport is its striking Brutalist architecture; both the terminal and tower have been faithfully reproduced in this imposing style. 

 

As to be expected from Rasha, the airport is full of delightful custom details, as well as a few Easter eggs! Almost all static aircraft, ground service equipment and landside vehicles have been created exclusively for this project; be sure to keep an eye out for some of the more exotic types unique to LDRI. The subtle elevation changes around the terminal and tower are modeled as 3D elements, which is something of a Rasha trademark. Detailed ground poly mapping, custom environment maps and PBR texturing can be seen across Rijeka, with a careful balance between detail and performance ensuring excellent FPS in both P3Dv4 and v5. 

 

Beyond the airport, the coverage area encompasses sections of Krk Island, Rijeka and surrounds. Explore many of the beautiful beaches, the port at Bakar and Kraljevica, and the front ranges of the Dinaric Alps. Dozens of custom landmarks have been carefully modeled, from the famous Krk Bridge (the third-longest concrete arch in the world), to the Urinj and Omišalj oil facilities, and many more. Hand-placed autogen and colour-balanced ground imagery ensure a seamless blend with the surrounding terrain, perfectly capturing the rugged feel of this part of Croatia. Misha Cajic has also lent his expert hand to the project; the extended coverage zone greatly improves the elevation mesh, coastline, roads and landclass to ensure complete compatibility with or without Global Vector and openLC Europe

Terrific news and great choice. A short flight to Pula along the beautiful coastline of Opatija. With summer around the corner, harder to imagine a better location to be in the sim and in real life. Great work Rasha!

Croatia finally is reaching its completion. LDZA, LDDU, LDPL now LDRI.... Maybe one day also LDSP will arrive! 

Congratulations, the screenshots speak themselves, as usual (unfortunately) first day buy from my side!

Will you actually make it 747 capable by providing an alternate set of the airport facilities file, that will disable Stands 4 and 5 and will activate stand A instead? Otherwise you'd have no way of parking a 747 with not GSX marshaller helping you. 

But if people could select this alternate layout in your configurator tool, that would make the airport truly 747 capable and it won't be just an empty marketing phrase :)

We will make those two options. One will be with those two parking spots disabled so JUMBOS can park at the parking position "A". I was also thinking about third version with all the stands enabled for guys that are exclusively flying on IVAO and VATSIM so they can have all those options for parking.

I'm more than happy to see you like the project, because as always I put a lot of love into this airport and I hope it can be seen. My  love for each and every of those numerous Adriatic airports from Slovenia through Croatia down to Montenegro was one of the things that pushed me into the scenery design and be sure that I make them so I can also enjoy them while I'm flying on IVAO and VATSIM with all of you.

That's perfect, thanks! Make sure that for the A stand enabled version you cut the taxiway on the main apron so that it won't be possible for AI to enter the apron via the A taxiway. The taxiway A should lead only to the A stand and nowhere else. Because once a heavy is parked on A, there's no way another aircraft could taxi via A taxiway to any other stand, a 747 or 777 would simply block the taxiway behind it. Aircraft then must enter the apron via B taxiway only.
