Captain Lars requested a flight over his town of Wuppertal

1.wl1.jpg

I thought it would be pleasant to have a flight in my Otter and we will depart at Meiersberg

2.wl2.jpg

Europe's largest chalk and limestone quarries are here at Wülfrath.

3.wl3.jpg

Now at the Wupper Valley with Vohwinkel to the left.

4.wl4.jpg

Elberfeld-West.

5.wl5.jpg

Wuppertal has a population of 350,000, the largest city in the Bergisches Land.

6.wl6.jpg

Famous for its Suspension Railway and its many green areas.

7.wl7.jpg

In 1897 Bayer patented Aspirin here.

8.wl8.jpg

It was one of Europes largest industrial areas in the 18 and 19th centuries.

9.wl9.jpg

It is still an important industrial centre with textiles, vehicle, chemical, electronics and pharmaceuticals amongst the industries here.

10.wl10.jpg

Turning back over Schwelm.

11.wl11.jpg

Now at Fleute.

12.wl12.jpg

Heading for the strip at Radevormwarde and passing Ronsdorf

13.wl13.jpg

Strip in sight as is the water of the Bevertalsperre.

14.wl14.jpg

Trip completed and now time for a barbie.

After so much TE, the older style scenery is still first class to fly over.

Fantastic shots, Martyn, combined with geographical learnings I did not have before. Thanks!

Plus: The weather is really spot-on, that´s how it looks today.

Cheers Gerold, another of these places I have heard of but didn't have a clue where it was.

I am glad the weather tied in with todays offering there as it made for a pleasant flight.:D

Amazing to read those familiar names!

Vohwinkel is our westernmost quarter here in Wuppertal. The motorway crossing you see is the Sonnborner Kreuz, and one of the bridges over it is supposed to be of the suspension train.

The smokestack you see is near the Bayer plant (Bayer is a company from Wuppertal originally).

Thank you for not puttin my town into the Ruhrgebiet as most people do. When you follow the road that comes from the motorway intersection, one of the houses with light red roofs could be my old high school...

Right behind the plane's tail you can see the quarter where I actually live.

... and a lot of "hidden champions". A lot of products are from Wuppertal where you'd never expect it.

Thank you very much Martyn for taking us along over my home area! It's really quite exact.
