ETAR Ramstein to Frankfurt

Jack Sawyer

Everything Orbx imaginable, starter at Ramstein for @paulb then flew at only 5000 feet to Frankfurt.  I know I could have chosen a smaller plane and didn't do anything dumb, except fly low but I wanted to see the countryside.  All are at max settings with most at 4096

Enjoy your 747 flight!

Well done Jack and thank you for showing Ramstein AB :).  In your second shot one can see that Orbx have decorated the control tower.

I think this is the major USAF base in Germany now. I believe that they also use Spangdahlem AB nearby.

Frankfurt also looks pretty decent in your shots. I keep getting tempted by some of the payware major German airports available, but my concern is always one of compatibility.

A great flight my friend! ;)

Thanks Paul and you're welcome.  I've never been there, just to Jever.  That's way way up in NW Germany.  I thought they did a great job on Frankfurt too.

Nice shots Jack, but could not see the fighter escort taking you off the base :D

Thanks Taph, didn't need one, they knew Fred was on board. B)

Excellent screenshots, Jack. I enjoyed going with you. Luckily there was plenty of room on your ride to stretch out

Thanks Bernd.  Such a huge plane, I love those 747's.

It's not the size, it's the speed. How are you supposed to take it all in at 250kts ;)

It's easy, Germany it still pretty large so it was easy to see some nice scenery along the way, I was only at 5K feet.

Beautiful sightseeing tour, Jack. I remeber as I was on a flight from EDFE to Saarbruecken EDDR,  we flew over Ramstein at 7.500 ft, as a C130 passed us below on the same heading as they were on final at Ramstein. Moments like this are unforgettable. It felt like we could land our Katana DA20 on the back of this widebody....

Thank you for bringing up this memory ;-)

cheers

Ramstein AB is indeed the main USAF base in Germany Paul, and it has been for several years. I've been there a few times in my day, and it is a pretty impressive airbase. It is a major hub for military aircraft too, especially for military flights between Africa, the Middle East and the USA.

Wonderful stuff, Jack. I particularly like #9 & #11, those settings are creating some fine looking flights.

Thanks Andy!  Adambar's settings I tweaked slightly.

Thanks Thorsten, now that would have been amazing.  I've flown on many a C-130 and 141.  Sitting sideways in that red seatbelt webbing from the UK to Turkey is not a lot of fun.  And when we got to Turkey, the crew, all female, not putting them down at all as they were very professional but they decided to allow them to do a bunch of touch and goes so it took a while to land.

Yup, when I was in I never went there but a lot of guys I know did, it was the biggest military hub in Europe.

Gosh John I don't know what to say, thanks mate!  I appreciate your kind words.

I'm using the PTA Absolute Natural preset, REX TD HD sky color set 05, and HDR is from top to bottom, Brightness, 1.08, Bloom, 1.12, Saturation, 0.50.  Then in PTA I changed two settings, I'm not at the PC now but I can PM them if you'd like later, please advise.

WOW! That PTA preset is spot on with the lighting. I had to do a double take on some of these to make sure you didn't sprinkle in some actual photographs.

Great set and that Queen sure is fun to fly.

Thank you kind sir, I appreciate it!  I agree, no finer civilian jet in my opinion.
