John Lovell
Here are a few shots of some of the photo real deserts in SCA. There are also many military bases dotted around these areas. This scenery is incredibly diverse which makes exploration endless.

BrianV
Great shots of salty looking runways. With a similar type of landscape the future might bring us an Ftx adventure package of the Peruvian desert Nazca lines with aerodrome SPZA in its vicinity. Mallard
I don't know if it is still possible - but is there any way that the edges of the photo real pics might blend a bit better with the region textures? In some of them they are painfully rough. Cheers Mallard

CrownCityMisfit
Again, thanks for the shots. Any chance of getting a shot of Joshua Tree area? I am curious to see if it has been covered with photoreal textures or not. Hoping to have photoreal coverage between KPSP and 29 Palm's KTNP. [dreaming it's true] Thanks! dominique
Nice pics John but, to be honest, I came to the OrbX environment, in the first place, because I'm no great fan of large swathes of plain and flat photo-imagery à la Mega-Scenery, in my sim. I've two questions for you : - what about the border between the OrbX generally beautiful textured ground and the photos ? In image #1 and #16, for instance, it looks like we see it delineating the two terrains. I might be wrong though. - Also, photo-imagery rapidly shows its limits at low altitude (and a lot of us are slow & low flyers) ruining the suspension of disbelief during the landing or NOE flights. I'd be interested to see how OrbX SoCal is doing to avoid these common flaws of photo-imagery.
Ripcord
Wait, did you guys create new hangar objects for Edwards AFB? If so, might we request a closer look at those? This has not been the practice for other USAF/RAF/RAAF bases in existing coverage areas so this represents a potentially interesting development -- but I am not sure I recognize some of these objects here in this and other shots:
FireRx
I had the same thought too in the city scape since I fly Helos mostly. Since this IS still in the beta stage I will wait for the final shots. But year I agree with the flaws with photo-imagery.. the edges in particular. I didn't count them all though :).
Holger Sandmann
Hi guys, as will all FTX Regions we carefully select the locations for which we provide photoreal coverage, specifically geographic features that are difficult to accurately portrait with landclass raster and polygons. In the case of SCA that's some of the colorful salt lakes and volcanic areas, beaches, harbors, large railyards, etc. No need to worry though for those who don't like photoreal at all: of the >100,000 sq mi covered by SCA less than 0.5% will be photoreal. Our Edwards Air Force Base uses most of the default buildings, which are very detailed (and required for some of the default missions). However, our photoreal coverage is much larger and more recent and thus fully captures all the satellite bases and the current configuration of paved and salt/dirt runways. FYI, some of the military installations (not KEDW), primarily those associated with nuclear weapons testing as well as Vandenberg AFB, are "blacked out" in the USGS public domain high-resolution imagery, meaning we didn't even have the option to consider those for photoreal areas. Cheers, Holger
FireRx
Thanks Holger for the explaining. Doest that mean items like the 2 nuclear Power plants in so Cal, Mt Diablo, and San Ofre are possbly black out as well?
dominique
Thank you Holger. Still interested to see how you made the transition between textures and photos. Not easy I suppose. Also, it is great that we'll have detailed railyards ! Do we get 3D locos and wagons laid on the photos ?

scubaboy
I hope this region comes out soon, or I will have to replace my keyboard - it's going to short out from all the drool! I wonder if the scenery will include some of the solar farms that are in the Mojave on both the California & Nevada sides. Last Southwest flight I took from Las Vegas to Oakland, I saw one in Nevada - the Crescent Dune Solar Energy Project, an extremely bright "UGO" (unidentified ground object), even in broad daylight. Matthew Curry
I really like the KEDW shots, just a little update to give it a second runway is very welcome. As for those who say they don't like photoreal areas I must ask, what do you think is there? It seems to be just desert, and I trust the devs to put in houses and trees where there are supposed to be houses and trees and I, for one, would like to see photoreal in areas that would otherwise be, well, just sort of yellow! Can't wait. Christmas present?
