  1. Just tried to start a flight at KSLE and it worked fine. Maybe this problem was some temporary glitch?
  2. Flying into KSLE I could not get KSLE to come up on the nearest airport list. went ahead and landed there anyway. You guys need a great job on the scenery. it looks very nice and displays with no problem. To further investigate I tried to get P3D load the airplane at another gate at KSLE. The ramp and gate spaces showed in the go to airport window, but P3D locked up trying to reload KSLE. I finally had to manually close the program. How to fix? Also, I was able to build a flight plan with KSLE as the destination with no problem.
  3. I flew into felts this afternoon and I just gotta say that the weeds in P3D5.2 HF1 look better than any other weeds I have ever seen in any other flight sim!
  4. Very nice report and great images. The more I compare images from MS 2020 and P3D5.2HF1 it seems to me one big difference is that the lighting seems better in 2020. I do see occasional view snapping in P3d when the system is really loaded down.
  5. I have just Orbx and some developers from around the Caribbean. A2A, Coronado and Albedo for airplanes pus I few I have been able to port over from FSX. For weather Rex Sky Force. I just installed Vancouver. Flying out of Vancouver I was able to get 20 fps with the sliders one notch below ultimate. Vram did get up to about 5.2
  6. About 75 miles south of Bowerman. I don't know what that little town is below me. Coming up on Astoria. Bowerman Dead Ahead.
  7. A lot of Stuff from FSX and earlier versions of P3D can be ported over or redownloaded at no costs and that's a real advantage. HF1 was a big improvement in 5.2 It just looks great. The only scenery drawback is some of the ground textures at some of the native airports. Even so, there are a few native airports that look fine as do the Orbx pay ware. Most of the Orbx freeware airports are pretty good also. I have not tried MS 2020 yet but have looked at some of YouTube videos which I recommend to anyone trying to decide, keeping in mind that most of the videos are trying to pump up MS 2020. The main dis I hear on MS 2020 is the flight model is not realistic. I lot of guys seem to have more than one sim. That's probably how most serious flight simmers are going to wind up.
  8. I have been making a tour of the Caribbean in P3D. There is a scenery from Aerosoft for Nassau in P3d butt it is a bit dated and has some problems. I flew there from TE Florida. A TE for Bermuda would be great and would be a natural expansion from TE Florida. There are a lot of sceneries available for various Caribbean islands but developers seem to have leap frogged over P3D to cash in on the rush to MS 2020. However, from what I can tell they seem to be just updating their FSX sceneries to work in 2020 rather than undertaking the improvements possible with newer technologies. On another note, I recently downloaded Henrik Nielsen"s Global AI ship Traffic for P3Dv5 and got it working in the sim. Its a great add on for ocean and costal flying. The ships and wakes are vastly improved over the FSX version and there a beta version for MS 2020.
  9. For those of you who are fans of MS 2020 could you say what you like the most about MS 2020 and what you like the least. I would like to know since I will likely eventually try it out.
  10. I am much impressed with P3Dv5.2HF1. I had a lot of Orbx scenery in FSX and a lot of airplanes. I have been able to port over to P3D all the scenery at no cost and many airplanes. Its not just the port overs, its all the knowledge and experience I gained after 10 plus years in FSX that is useful in P3D. I might try MSFS 2020 after A2A starts releasing planes for it, but for now I am happy with P3D.
  11. This is interesting. Nick, the fact that you could not duplicate the problem and no one else had been talking about it led me to believe it was something on my system. I tried TLPC with several different airplanes. It seems that the only one suffering this problem is the 170b. Even the 170b Tundra did not have the problem. I had not made any changes to the config file on the 170b Tundra so I though maybe some change I made to the 170b config file was causing the problem, but the only changes I made were to the engine and the propeller. The way the airplane seemed to be torqueing to the left made me suspect the propeller. I had zeroed out the low speed theory limit so I changed that back to the original number and that seems to have solved the problem. I have no explanation for why this problem only occurred in the Caribbean islands or why shutting down the engine initiated the problem so I will keep double checking.
  12. This is so odd and so widespread on my system that it is odd that there has not been more discussion of the problem. This is not just with saved default flights. I will try some different things and report back.
  13. Thanks! I got the distance wrong. Its actually more than 100 miles to Walla Walla from where the shots were taken.
  14. I you haven't done so verify files in the Orbx Library. Its my understanding that the Library has a sub routine that can fix this problem. I had a similar problem and nothing worked until I ran verification on the Orbx Library.
  15. I forgot to mention that this doesn't seem to happen at TKPN which is also Orbx freeware.
  16. I have been trying to establish a tour around the Caribbean. With several of the small island airports and also with the airport at TLPC, which is Orbx freeware, when the sim launches the aircraft spins rapidly and then seems to screw itself into the ground. Also, the cockpit screen in an interesting effect turns red which guess means you are dead, except when the airplane screws itself completely underground the screen turns black which I guess is quasi-realistic. In another interesting effect if you land at one of these airports. the airplane doesn't start screwing itself into the ground until you turn the engine off. What causes this and is there any simple way to fix it?
  17. Here we have a shot from a more or less direct flight from Rohnerville, California to Walla Walla, Washington. Very green as you would expect. Here we have a shot a bit northeast of the previous shot and about 60 miles southwest of Walla Walla. There is a hint of this landscape behind the cloud on the left of the previous image. And here is the same moonscape a bit further north. Washington and Oregon are very green in the western parts of both states, but considerably dry in in their eastern parts.
  18. Nice colors on the 170b too.
  19. Very nice shots of what has become one of my favorite airplanes. I have really enjoyed flying it in FSX and P3D.
  20. I would go with adding as much M2 capacity as you can. Its my opinion that the systems that you can get now can be adequately fast for what is available in flight sim, and maybe into the future also, However, I think the future is going to require about 4 TB of memory minimum with the fastest type of storage, which is currently the M2 drive. . The system that my son and I built a couple of months ago has an 2 TB M2 drive in the non SATA configuration as Nick suggests. All it has on it is Win 10 and P3Dv5.2hf1 plus a few extra airplanes and almost all of the Western USA Orbx scenery. No Orbx upgrade scenery other than the USA. The M2 drive is already up to 1.05 TB. My stem has a 1 TB SSD with all the old FSX stuff on it. I also have a 4 TB HD. When I add MSFS 2020 I will move FSX to the HDD and install 2020 on the SSD, Or maybe get another M2 Drive. Cooling is important too. I have a Radeon 5700XT for the GPU. I can run it at unlimited over most of the western us and it can hit up to 100 fps, but when get into built up areas I have to throttle down to about 40 fps to keep it from heating up my computer room. When GPU prices come down a bit I am going to replace it with something faster that hopefully will run cooler. In short, get as much fast storage as you can and the fastest GPU you can. Its just that right now a high end GPU is going to cost as much as all the rest of your system.
  21. There is no one future for flight sim. The different simulators have different appeals.
  22. Here we have several shots on a flight from Medford, Oregon to Klamath Lake, Oregon. This is a shot from the cockpit of my hotrod 170b. Some of you may note that we are climbing through 3400 feet doing 140 mph. Lets just say I made some changes to the config file. I also added a 2D GPS and autopilot. That's Agate lake on the right. To the left of the lake is a 600 foot long runway where the local RC club flies. We are following highway 140. This is Oregon so I have trees turned up to ultra. That is Fish Lake below us and Mt. Mclaughlin on the left. The gray patches around the lake are from very old pyroclastic flows of black volcanic cinders. In several places they flow all the way down to the highway. Here we have Lake of the Woods with Klamath lake in the distance. the large yellow patch is a meadow that was used as an emergency field in WWII. It is covered with dry grass in the summer and a foot or two of water in the winter. One of these days I'll have to try landing there. In this shot Klamath lake is on the right. I have processed the image to try to show the smoke from the fires in Southern Oregon. Its actually worse than the image.
