Popular Post Stillwater
As many of you will remember, one catecory of sim flights I do is re-flying trips that I have done in real life. Posting screenshots from these flights, I often added some real life-photos. This has become more challenging in the last years, due to two reasons: With MSFS not many sceneries cover the Orbx forum rule "must contain scenery made or sold by Orbx", so these can´t be posted as I did in the past on the Orbx forum. Over the past two years about half of the guys that used to post and comment moved to the AVSIM forum, and half stayed at Orbx. Now that some more attractive payware sceneries have been established, I will try to take up my documentation practice again - let´s see if I can manage it. Last February we travelled with some long-distance night flights to New Zealand, overcoming our jetlag and starting our tour in Queenstown. We went down to the southernmost point on the planet I have been until now: Mossburn, ... ... had late breakfast in Te Anau, ... ... before driving up the Eglington valley. Via Mirror Lakes ... ... to Lake Gunn (the one left below). Followed the road to Homer tunnel. As some of you may know, this is a single-lane tunnel only, so you have to wait before you may pass. Guides say this can take up to 30 minutes in high season. Even with a car it is quite a steep way down from there to the valley. But with a plane this is even more challenging. The routined pilot can do it, before turning into final over the famous sound. We stayed in Milford Sound Lodge, a place that was finally added to the scenery with the area pack. An area we will explore on the follwoting days in more detail. 9
BradB
Fascinating post Gerald , the one way tunnel reminds me of the rail/car tunnel out to Whittier Alaska .

jean marc
great tour in Southern NZ ! I believed Tasmania (were I've been in RL 20 years ago) was more in the south that NZS/Mossburn and it was false ! Nice to have in mind that point 🙂 but I win against you with my travel in Ushuaia which is more in the South 😄 HAPPY NEW YEAR 2024 Gerold Edited January 15 by jean marc

wain71
what a great post there Gerold, some fantastic shots and pictures, I hope the wait at the tunnel is 4 minutes and not 4 hours...

That is what I initially thought as well, but the seconds were moving in a pleasant way... 😉 Thanks for commenting, Wayne!

Very nice and interesting set Gerold! For the future you should first have a look which scenery is available in MSFS and than book your destination for vacation accordingly. 🙂

Well, in my next business trip I will use at least 4 Orbx-sold airports, and pass an old classic on the road. I must take some pictures…
