VH-KDK
My first flight in the Mallard but surprisingly we are taking off from the beach at Southport. 1. Not many high rises can be seen and it is only 5°C on the Irish Sea coast in Merseyside, a far cry from tropical Queensland. 2. Southport Pier is the oldest iron pier in the UK and second in length to Southend. Top left the famous Royal Birkdale Golf Course can be made out. 3. The less famous Southport Golf Links and Heskith Golf Links. 4. EGNH Blackpool Airport. 5. Blackpool Tower can be seen just above the Mallard. 6. Pushing on to Barrow and can you see Iain's house? 7. The Esk, Mite and Irt Rivers converge here at Ravenglass 8. Passing Sellafield Power Station with the beautiful mountains of the Lake District in the background. 9. Saltom Bay and Whitehaven. 10. After going by Workington we reach Maryport. 11. Now at Silloth with the RAF airfield that was closed in 1960. 12. The Wampool Estuary and above the nose can be seen the masts of the Anthorn Radio Station which specialises in time keeping and navigation. 13. The mouth of the River Annan on the Scottish side of the Solway Firth where we shall find a suitable runway! 14. End of the flight and making our way to the Annan River and to tie up at Newbie. I didn't realise that as I now watch very little sport. I guess there isn't enough time to look now that FSim is my major pastime.

I am starting to forget some places now so it is good for me to refresh my ailing memory. I did enjoy visiting this area a few times in the early 70s though. Stillwater
I thought you were flying from any "Southport" in NZL or OZ, but you surprised me a bit with the temperature... before I realized your current location. Long time no see the UK here! 9 hours ago, VH-KDK said: Passing Sellafield Power Station If you land on the water there, you might not need landing lights any more; the Mallard would be self-glowing . Sniper31
Very nice educational tour of a part of the U.K. Martyn. I certainly can always soak up more information about the British Isles (not to mention many other parts of the World).

I am nasty for trying to confuse people and give them false hope. I imagine it would be a disappointment in RL thinking you were going to a place with warm weather and exotic food and ending up with 5°C, fish and chips with "kiss me quick" hats! Landing at Sellafield would be risky with all of the mutant sea creatures inhabiting the waters around there.

Very difficult to tell the semi-italian flight announcements from Genova. At least no "kiss me quick" risk in both cities. Same on the return flight. Munich is called Monaco in Italian... You mean the seas under your plane contain something more strange than the Loch Ness does ?

With all that nasty stuff leaking into the sea from Sellafield, there are the makings for a great 50s style sci-fi movie or comic.

Mind you we see plenty of mutants here in Mooroopna, pushing their shopping trolleys full of junk food around Woolworths.
