Crossing the Cook

Stillwater

As the scheduled flights sometimes are just a boring cattle-like transport, some wealthy tourists hired a vintage airliner to cross Cook Strait. I was fortunate to be selected as their pilot, climbing out of Wellington...

The South Island already showed its beauty over Havelock...

... before we climbed up to Mt. Owen, where the exit of Moria was placed by Peter Jackson.

Descending towards Christchurch across the mountains, I was overwhelmed by the extremely detailed mesh. Holger surely has done a great job here!

The landing sequence was too much routine (compared to the nature seen before on this flight), so I can´t give you the documentation. Sorry.

Lovely stuff Gerold - wonderful feeling of peace and space. Love that paint job, and of course  . . . NZ - what's not to like?

Yes, always nice to find a suited plane with a lovely livery after selecting the route.

Beautiful Gerold.  I love the NZ livery and your tour was top notch.

... and I even left out the many small coastal islands on the top of NZSI, a nice place.

Very enjoyable flight Gerold and more magnificent NZ scenery in your shots.

A very nice choice of aircraft for your journey and think yourself lucky you chose to fly and not make the crossing of the Cook Strait by boat.

I love the DC-3, martyn (I think most of us do?), and now you remind me there could be some nasty currents betwen these big islands, can´t it?

Nice combination Stillwater.  NZ and the DC3.  Fantastic scenery and a wonderful older Queen of the Skies.

Like the Connie the DC-3 has received an ever-beauty design.

I never thought that Moria could look so lovely. Chuckles. Anyway, before Sauron arrives... Good pictures, Still. They are always lovely to see.

As you might remember I have already visited Mount Doom (Mt Ngauruhoe) last week. No rings left, so I can enjoy the trip!

Do you mean specifically this one or the DC-3 in general? I have a whole bunch IRL's of them. :)

I just meant "general", Ben. That could be a nice challenge to rearrange RL pictures in the sim afterwards... ;)
