Bathurst has been closed

Devestating news has come through that Bathurst (YBTH) airport has been closed for major repairs.

CASA has stated that in the early hours of Sunday morning Some crazed pilot flying a QANTAS B737-800 made several touch and go circuits at the airport causing considerable damage to the main runway (17/35). The main damage is the deep wheel marks gouged out of the runway. Contractors are working around the clock to carry out repairs and estimate it will be at least a week before repairs are complete.

Apparently this "pilot" thought that by doing these circuits in the early hours of the morning nobody would see him. However a security guard doing his rounds just happened to be at the airport when this incident took place and provided authorities with a good description of the aircraft.

This "pilot" was not a very smart cookie as he decided to brag about his exploits and post some photos on the ORBX Forums. However he made several errors in his posting which has allowed CASA to take the appropriate action. They were able to get the name of the airline as well as the registration. After contacting QANTAS they have handed all the information to the Australian Federal Police who hope to make an early arrest.

It is unclear whether QANTAS will be charged but they have offered to pay all the costs involved in repairing the main runway at Bathurst.
