The Edgeley Opticia

The Edgeley Optica is a "quirky" little aircraft that is a lot of fun to fly.

It is ideally suited for a little grass strip airport like this one.

Thanks for viewing

I really enjoy the consistency in this scenery. Everything is modeled to the same high quality standards.

I love the Optica for sightseeing.  It seems a perfect role for this model...

Beautiful images Pete, pretty darned good for freeware isn't it!:)

It was built as an observation platform and as you rightly point out, it has excellent vision.

Interesting to see the Pipistrelle factory, I had a Virus fly over my house on Saturday.:D

I must blow the cobwebs off my OPtica, I havent flown it for ages.B)

Looks like something Jack S. would enjoy . :):D

I would hope so John, but it might be a little too "tame" for him!

Great set of images Pete. The Edgley is indeed perfect for sightseeing. It's like have helicopter and half small GA plane. :)

Thanks Landon

A helicopter after many attempts is just way, way .... I mean way beyond my skill level. :(

The Edgely suits me to a "T"

All the best

Indeed it is Martyn!

It's an observation I have been making for some time with MS2020

Compared with other sims, as a generalized comment,  the proliferation of freeware scenery that often exceeds some

payware products is really refreshing  to see.

There are a lot of very talented folks out there who have taken to this sim like a duck to water.

That would have been really cool to see.

If you ever want to get an inside look , let me know...

As you can see , they know me here B)

Cool shots Pete!  I love the yellow, but what an odd looking plane.  It just looks so unlike a plane doesn't it?  I wonder how it flys in real life, is it dangerous?

Thank you

It is that. The idea is a very good one , although it seems it had a very tough time early on.

Apparently just as the company was getting started, a fire destroyed the factory and the company dissolved at that point.

But times change, and it may again become useful.

If you were to Goggle it, you would find some info although it is fairly sparce ...

Here are two articles that I found that I thought you might be interested in ...

And a short video

Hope this is of some help

Thanks Pete!  I’ll read them tonight.  I’m on descent into Edinburgh from EGLC.  At night too and it’s stunning.

Without wanting to seem pedantic in my dotage:wacko: - I seem to remember that I paid for my Optica therefore

the Orbx version was not freeware and is for sale on Central

There was an earlier freeware version on fS.to a long time ago - but which eventually became Payware somewhat recently

meanwhile - it is a great little  bird to fly @ 80knts - and very enjoyable

Here's me flying over my Home town

I was actually refering to the freeware airport as was listed at the top of the post.

That’s what I thought so too Martyn.  The freeware airport.  Now I have to go look for it as I like the interior scenes.  Thanks.

Great articles Pete.  So sad about the crash though.  It looks so fragile to me though, like it could break off at the engine at any time but I kind I of like it, I wonder how it performs in the sim compared to real life.

It is a fun little aircraft that I like a great deal

"I wonder how it performs in the sim compared to real life."

I have no idea, and anything I could offer would be pure speculation on my part , so my best answer is I simply don't know

But a great opportunity for you to go do some sleuthing on your own Jack :)

All the best

Cheers

Pete
