Wonderful set of shots Martyn - the MCG is somewhere i've always wanted to visit.  Cheers,

Caum

Thanks Calum. It has been a long time since I have been and I have yet to see it in its current form.

Hopefully one day you will make it as the atmosphere, especially when England is involved in the cricket, is something to behold.:)

Absolutely.  I often watch the ashes test matches on television and the atmosphere at the MCG looks incredible.  I think it's usually the boxing day or new year test if i'm not wrong.  With a 100,000 capacity, it must be enormous.  Cheers,

I have been to a few Boxing Day ashes matches in the 80s and the atmosphere was unbelievable. I have seen some great players from all countries in the tests and one dayers. The AFL football was magic too in the 80s and I was lucky enough to get to 3 Grand Finals. I now live 2 hours away but I am not interested in the modern game.:(

I have also seen Rangers play a friendly game there too! Are you green or blue?:)

Thanks Jack, they do call it the sports capital of the world but I am not sure how true that is.

We are well known for liking sport.:)

Indeed looks very good your Melbourne Martyn! :) Does the scenery include an Orbx upgrade?

And is it the Asobo C152? For me by far the best Asobo aircraft, it's excellent.

Thank you Andreas.

Orbx did work on the Australian upgrade for 2020 and the Melbourne scenery is a separate pack from Central.

It is the Asobo C152 which I also enjoy flying and as the scenery is Orbx throughout Australia I can use it.:)

Splendid scenery though isn't it and knowing my way around the city a little does help.B)

My original intention was to fly around the breathtaking Melbourne scenery but flying above the Tullamarine Freeway I decided to find and show some of Melbourne's many sporting venues.

1.87w88l2.jpg

North of the CBD is Mooney Valley Racecourse in the suburb of Mooney Ponds. Home of the Cox Plate it is also a harness racing venue. The floodlights don't show up here but several night meetings are held every year.

2.MqvJVOL.jpg

Flemmington is the home of the race that stops a nation, The Melbourne Cup. The first Tuesday in November is the culmination of Victoria's Spring Racing Carnival which includes the famous race.

3.lrpe7zM.jpg

Docklands Stadium, with it's retractable roof, is a multi use stadium with everything from Australian Rules Football to music concerts. I totally refuse to utter it's current sponsors name for what it has done to it's age old comic characters.

4.IWxC1s6.jpg

In the centre of the pic is one of the world's 11th largest sporting ground, the Melbourne Cricket Ground or MCG or The G! Another multi purpose venue primarily used for Australian Football and Cricket. It has totally changed since I regularly went there in the 80s.

5.SJpLTfV.jpg

Another view of the G . Other stadia in view here are on the left bottom AAMI Park Football(roundball) stadium. To the right of that is the National Tennis Centre. Above that is the Vodafone (John Cain) Arena. The large white stadium is The Rod Laver arena and just visible above that is The Margaret Court Arena, named after Australia's greatest woman player who is currently being persicuted for her beliefs. A shame the old parkland has been built on but it has provided a world class tennis complex.

6.QgjXRMP.jpg

Albert Park with it's lake and the venue for the annual Melbourne F1 Grand Prix.

7.KNJyQKv.jpg

Above the Monash Freeway is the Kooyong Tennis Centre which held the Austraian Open Tennis until 1988

8.Jhp7jha.jpg

A last view of Melbourne CBD and Docklands Stadium at dusk.

Great shots Martyn, really shows the city  sports amenities off. Thanks for that
