Still in the PNW

This time in Arlington, State of Washington, NW USA. The city lies on the Stillaguamish River in the western foothills of the Cascade Range.

The airport dates back to 1934. The airfield was one of four similar stations located in Northwestern Washington developed by the Navy in 1942 to 1943 primarily for the operational training of fleet carrier squadrons.

When the war ended in 1945 the need for the airport diminished rapidly. The airport was placed on caretaker status on December 1, 1945 and then on inactive status on July 1, 1946. The City of Arlington was granted use of the airport under an interim use permit on December 19, 1946 and was later deeded the property on February 25, 1959.

Currently, the airport is host to several businesses making significant contributions to the aviation industry. Every year in July the airport is host to one of the northwest's largest fly-ins. The airport is home to corporate, vintage aircraft, piston aircraft, helicopters, gliders, and ultralights.

A wonderful selection of views from your flight Paul.

I like the colours on your Cirrus too.:)

No shortage of airfields to choose from around Seattle.

Thank you Martyn. :) The Cirrus is nice to fly, and I do like having a glass cockpit as a change from flying a Spitfire etc.

Currently I am trying to populate Washington with as many airports as I can! :D

More great looking images Paul. KAWO is an airport that I was NOT familiar with, so now, thanks to you, I am a little more aware of it. It has an interesting history as you pointed out. Great stuff! :)

Thanks Landon. Although KAWO is by a partner, it works fine with TE Washington :).
