Oh, you can go into Mordor and back!

A short flight from Taupo was the first thing to do after my return from skiing. Crossing the lake southwards...

... climbing over huge forests ...

... towards the Red Crater, ...

... Emerald Lake ...

... and the high plains of Mordor.

Mount Doom (aka Mt. Ngauruhoe), the right place to destroy the Ring.

Mt. Ruapehu, the southernmost peak of the area.

And finally descending over well-cultivated land...

... not into Minas Tirith, but to Waiouru.

Please stay assured the scenery chase will be continued, even though we have already reached Mt. Doom and returned to civilisation.

Wonderful set Gerold, such great scenery.

I must admit that I have not seen any of the Lord of the Rings movies or read the book so a lot of this is lost on me.

One of those things I must  get round to one day.

Somehow I am jealous on you VFR Guys. You have so much more to see.
Good shots, Captain

Some weeks I fly VFR, some weeks more IFR. That is the pleasure of simming...

Most excellent shots Gerold.  How I wish I could go there in real life and see all that for myself.  It must be stunning.

I also have only internet knowledge about NZL. But this tour seems to be one of the most famous on the North Island. At least very well detailed in FTX :).

Thanks, Martyn. I would say give the book a chance, it is a pleasure of our family to throw (German) citations out of it into everyday´s life.

Great set Gerold. I did the same flight from Taupo a few days ago but headed back to Taupo after circling Mount Ruapehu.

Ah, I think I have seen you amongst the AI traffic! I´ll head further south now...
