dominique
There are airfields you'll never see in the sim. OrbX cannot make them all. Three solutions : cry on the forums (I am too old for it), resign one'self (I'm not old enought for it) or make it yourself (what is retirement for ?). Introducing Long Island, PNG. LSJ is not in the FS database but was made by Graham in his PacSIm package. It happened to be my favorite airfield there. But PacSIm PNG is not compatible with Vector and the Vector + Global + the SceneryTech landclass combo makes PNG so much more convincing. I also love Tim and Ken's Kokoda package. So I downloaded SbuilderX, bought IS3 learnt the basics and made it . This is amateur's stuff and still a work a progress but I can land there where there was nothing in the sim before. You can have a look of the "before and after" here (post #7). Landing in PacSim LSJ was landing on a high cliff . I made it more realistic, a few meters high only. These strips are mostly undocumentated but I found a youtube short clip showing a landing and the shorter cliiff. BTW, searching for pics, videos, maps etc is half the fun. Of course high bushes before the threshold make the landing easier. NOT ! But they are here in the real world. One of the two volcanoes of this island which has a very large lake too. A wonderful approoach... I think I will only leave the boulders and put the cones away, to mark the threshold The end of the strip is sloped which is useful in case of a hot landing. After, you have a hill in front of you and on your left. The final turn to the rest area. I do the small village shown on Google Earth but I have now to learn the tricks of 3D modeling to do my own huts. I don't show it because I've some placeholders that are proprietary not mine. PNG is cruelly lacking airfields à la RTMM to add to Tim and Ken's works so as the NTSU blurb says "what are you waiting for", if I can do it you can do it and I telll you what, it is a lot of fun to create worlds (God complex , time to leave ).
