  1. Thank you both . I appreciate the comments Aside from physically smiling at people and receiving one in return (which seems to be universal ) my life experience has taught me that hand gestures and emoji's are best used sparingly if at all. This is a very nice forum that I enjoy so much, but some of my experiences, although hilarious would no doubt have me banned forever , so I shan't go into any details either publicly or privately. And so to you both I enjoyed, enjoyed , enjoyed your thoughts which is represented by All the best to both of you And John, just so you won't worry , I have dozens of others. Tell me when you're on holidays, so I will know when to post them ... grin, grin. Cheers Pete Thanks John You will enjoy it. The real sleuth in finding neat things is TTM @TigerTigerM He find's things that us mere mortal's would never know existed in the scenery It makes flying in Orbx very enjoyable for me. Cheers Pete Thank you Adam Cheers Pete Ah, .... I'm welling up ! Thank you . It is appreciated and I am very pleased you enjoyed them. At one point in my career, I lived in an area that had many houses with Widows walks , which is how I came to know about them They tend to be found on what locally would be called "Grand Houses" , that historically were often owned by Captains, And what you gave us was certainly in form and spirit of a "Grand House" which is why I got excited and investigated Thank you and Tim so much for the details you give us. I realize it is a lot of work to get it right, but for me it is very appreciated. Unfortunately for all concerned , loved ones on shore often found that a ship had encountered trouble , from the Captain's wives spending endless days peering into the horizon , until the inevitable was realized . Thank you Iain Cheers Pete Thank you Martyn Gotta go now . My eyes seem to be wet again Cheers and thank you. It is very appreciated All the best Pete
  2. My topic today is a) investigate and learn about it b) Take a flight This is a great screenshot As an ambassador you have done a super job !! Cheers Pete PS- it is a very nice gesture indeed
  3. Thank you for sharing this with us I used to have this in FSX. It was one of my favourites Those were the days ! A very nice screenshot. It portrays it well Great job! Cheers Pete
  4. Hello everyone One of the fascinating things I find about Windows 10 (fascinated not necessarily in a good way) is that everyone's experiences can be so different. Interestingly, I have never had the issue of updates resetting the USB power settings. Maybe the expression "Touch Wood" is relevant here However, I 'm sure that my time will come .... I have both a powered USB 3.0 Hub and a powered USB C Hub and both are permanently connected without any issues Wolfgang @wolfko brings up a really excellent point that is probably not known by many users. Luckily , I have never had this issue either but I will certainly keep this in mind for the future. Wolfgang would you mind please putting together a separate forum topic on your experience regarding the privacy settings changing with each update. That would be very helpful I think as it is something which is not obvious at all as a potential problem after a Windows Update. As you correctly point out, it could be extremely frustrating for a MS2020 user who suddenly finds his simulator has stopped working. I suspect that someone who has had it happen wouldn't necessarily look in a topic about USB power power settings for a solution. Cheers all and thank you for commenting Pete
  5. @Coopfpv Just to add, I had this niggle from time to time and this worked well for me also. However, just to elaborate as Jon mentions in his note please make sure to delete the contents of the SceneryIndexes folder NOT the folder itself. In my case, I accidently deleted the folder itself and MS2020 refused to start after that , until I reinstalled the folder and contents and then just deleted the contents as Jon has recommended. I hope you get up and running soon. It is fabulous scenery and you will really enjoy it. Cheers and Welcome to Orbx and our forums All the best Pete @Tim Harris
  6. Thanks TTM Ken and Tim @ Ken Hall @Ken Hall, @Tim Harris did such a bang up job on this one didn't they. I think it is just drop dead gorgeous and so enjoyable to fly in. Each time , when I'm finished for the day, I feel like I've just had a wonderful holiday in S Cal . Cheers Pete
  7. Well it's our last day, and you would expect that we should be flying again But our boss, being the considerate manager that he is, sent us a text yesterday afternoon and said thanks for all your drone photos. They really helped us to evaluate the technology. So take today off and we'll see you both tomorrow. So a late night , and a later start and we decided to play tourist. Here are a few additional snaps along the way Cheers Pete (the scribe) I've said this before but I love the attention to detail @Ken Hall It's just outstanding! Apparently you can go up to the top. The views are much better We don't have a plan, so we'll just start walking along the seafront to see what we shall see. Wow now that is a find .... I never expected to see that on a house here (I grew up in New England) This is a classic "Widows Walk" or sometimes called a "Widows Watch" . The are two stories to go with it. Let's go with the more interesting one first. The name supposedly is linked to the wives of sailors who would climb up to the roof to watch for their loved ones. Often it was in vain and they never returned , hence the name "Widows Walk" . They were accessed through a ladder and trap door and were usually open to the elements as this one is, but some were quite fancy and enclosed in glass. Often they were wives of whalers, since sailors in that industry would often be gone for several years at a time. The more practical story is associated with something much more mundane. Typically the chimney was very close to the Windows walk platform. Back in the day, it was not at all uncommon to have chimney fires , which was a very serious issue, So the family would store buckets of water and sand on the platform to be used to pour into the chimney in case they had the misfortune to have a fire. I think I'll go with the first story I can only assume that the Ai was having a bit of a "hissy fit" with this one. Obviously , you need to be careful with instructions. Asking for a two story house with balcony on all sides may deliver something which is not be quite what you had in mind. Ditto for this one as well. But I have t say it does make for some very interesting architecture all the same. Now for the famous tiled roof , first discovered by the famous amateur archeologist TTM @TigerTigerM, not that many years before. It is in a remarkable state of preservation. The colors look just as vibrant as if it were built yesterday. Must be the Mediterranean Climate We've just stopped for a quick coffee. It is just as warm out as it looks from the snaps. Just glorious And this is where we had dinner last night. A wonderful place. Great food and ambience. We really recommend it , if you're visiting some time. Yep, great weather, a good companion and sun glinting off the water. Who could ask for anything more .... So we decided to take a little boat tour of the harbour. Life is too short to let a little bit of flaking paint put us off. Well unfortunately , it's time for us to bid adieu . We've really enjoyed visiting with you and sharing our weekend on Catalina . Turned out that it actually was a holiday weekend for us all which was very nice. So remember when you see the orange Coast Guard in the skies in south Cal , give a friendly wave . It just might be us , doing what we love to do. All the best !
  8. This isn't "lucky" John. For me , it is pure artistic genius and excellence in a screenshot. Sorry if that was conveyed incorrectly Pete
  9. Hi Joe As per the PS - "I do not know" I've always used it as a description (from when I took French in school) for "even though it has some flaws and is not perfect it has an appealing intrinsic quality which is very nice" . But school was so very long ago now, and I live about 2000 KM from Quebec , so there are endless possibilities that I have it wrong It's old age and I'm sticking to my story But in all seriousness, it just seemed to me that the combination of the character of the Caudron and the "feeling" of Catalina that was portrayed by TTM's screenshots made it a perfect fit. I stand corrected if I have used it incorrectly. Cheers Pete
  10. You've got it all wrong John! The conventional wisdom is that you start with "ho hum" and then lead up to utter perfection ! Get with the program But if you are going to do things in reverse order, it simply doesn't get any finer than this Cheers Pete
  11. Your plane is quirky, a little bit of "lets be really different because we can" but with your choice of scenery both become so very complimentary. Catalina with the Orbx touch just seems to be that made for that sort of vibe. It is je nais se quois at it's finest Cheers Pete PS - you've given me a journey destination . Gotta go looking for roof tiles now! @Ken Hall
  12. When screenshots draw you into the picture and make you feel like you are experiencing the moment as you would if you were physically there , you know they are very well done ! Your 4th one for me is an outstanding example of this. I could imagine and feel walking up to the bins and then climbing the stairs and in my imagination it was very real. It simply doesn't get any better John Thank you for sharing this part of Wales with us All the best Pete
  13. I have now taken to putting a cushion on the edge of my desk , before I look at your screenshots It is less painful that way when my jaw hits it ! You truly are an artist ... Every cloud pattern you chose exactly fits and enhances the scene your are portraying. These are excellent Cheers Pete
  14. From reading all the comments, you have so captured the essence of the day in your screenshots for all of us. We can all relate to them. Well done Martyn! Cheers Pete PS- somedays, I think colour is over rated Oops -- did I really say that!
  15. Screenshots don't do it justice. You sit there in a hover and just watch the roll of the waves and you know what's going to happen. It's both fascinating, majestic and downright scary all at the same time. Cheers Pete
  16. Thanks Tim I appreciate it I just read the info on the link. That is well worth doing Cheers Pete Thanks JM Hope the rest of the day had gone well also Cheers Pete Thanks Ken I really enjoyed the Mediterranean vibe of the town and the sea front I was a bit surprised when I came across it , but the attention of detail that has been added here is just amazing One runs out of superlatives very quickly ! Cheers Pete Thank you Iain See you Pete Thanks Graeme It does indeed - the whole community just seems to come alive Almost felt like I was actually there when I was roaming about Cheers & Thanks! Pete Thanks John Take care Pete Thanks Martyn Cheers Pete
  17. Thanks John The instruction book says to run it on full "Churn" so that's what I do According to the wife, it's the only time I've ever listened to advice in my life Cheers! Pete Thanks The harbour is really well done Ken, really well done indeed You guys exceed expectations and then crank it up a notch or two ! And Pebbly beach - I like it. We were there many, many years ago and I wondered about the name , until I saw it. You captured it perfectly Cheers Pete They weren't enjoying a wee dram of HP. If they were, and if it were me I would have followed it over the side Cheers Pete Thanks Iain Cheers Pete Thanks John It just seemed a story line should go with it I'm really pleased that you enjoyed it! See you Pete Thanks Martyn Very easy to set up in MS2020 Stills , don't capture the moment though ... live action is quite spectacular I find it hard to believe its a simulation Cheers Pete
  18. Thanks Martyn I hope to pay a return visit one day and also a first visit to New Zealand Cheers Pete Thanks JM See you Pete I'm really pleased to hear that it plays well on the "Big Screen" I hear (on good authority) that there's a new GPU coming that will handle the VR part just fine The only "hickup" at the moment is that they are having a few issues finding a PC case for it ref : The World’s 10 Fastest Supercomputers – in Pictures | Data Center Knowledge Cheers & thanks! Pete Thank Adam. I appreciate it Cheers Pete Thank you Iain Cheers Pete Thanks Graeme Never thought of it that way before. But I could become a "virtual one " Wouldn't have to worry about heights either , I have my "drone" Cheers Pete Gosh, thanks But I'm just the guy pushing a few buttons. The real genius for all this lies with folks like JV who had the vision of what could be and all the talented folks at Orbx who keep making it possible for us to enjoy it. Cheers Pete Thanks Joe . I am really pleased you enjoyed it. Haven't seen him for a while, but my feeling is that he would handle this with aplomb and grace. It's his style .... he's a real pro at this stuff PS - love the pint. I tip my pint to you as well sir!!! See you Pete Thanks John! Cheers Pete hola Carlos Thank you so much I'm really pleased you like them Take care my friend
  19. Thanks JM See you Pete Thanks Ken They look like proper trees and are proportioned correctly And they're made by a person - none of this algorithm stuff for you lads me thinks You and your colleagues did a bang up job on this one Cheers Pete Thanks Adam I'm pleased you enjoyed them Thanks John Thanks Tim As I mentioned above , you and your colleagues did a great job on this one! It's always the little things with Orbx , which for me always move it from very good to stellar. Never have been disappointed , amazed , and sometimes , hurt my jaw hitting my desk , but never disappointed All the best Pete Thank you Iain Cheers Pete Thanks Martyn but the credit belongs to the architects and designers . I was just the guy setting up the lighting for the photo shoot Cheers Pete Thanks Gerold Cheers Pete
  20. Quite right too Mind you, the new addition to our family looks pretty cool as well in "shades" Cheers Gerold and thanks! Pete I suspect they think the are incognito and folks will mistake them for XPlaner's working undercover Cheers Pete Personally I think they look more like welders goggles than Maui Jim's , but what do I know Cheers Pete But they're invincible. Why I've seen them quartered in pieces that would make a lesser man someone to be remembered over a nice "wee one" But they just bounce right back Also they don't seem to be bothered by weather at all. Rain, sleet or snow, they're always on the job But I have noticed they don't smile much So maybe they don't enjoy the job as much as I think Cheers Adam Dare taken .... just let me at him, but then he disappears just when you think you got em No staying power I say .... much too easy to back down from a challenge Thanks John! You might think he's silly, but some days its the only thing that appears to work consistently in MS Cheers!
  21. Thanks Gerold That would be nice Cheers Pete Thanks Don Lots of experience. I just have to have a look outside at the moment See you Pete Thanks JM A thumbs up from where the concept began. Can't ask for more than that Cheers Thanks Craig See you! Pete Thanks Martyn Thanks Adam You're a master - you have the knack I can only marvel and learn Cheers Pete Thank you Iain Cheers Pete @shermank Thanks Sherm I enjoyed that immensely Was one of my favourite films many years ago Cheers Pete Thank John Cheers Pete If they only knew how easy it was - little mouse action here and there, quick click with the forefinger and "Bob's your Uncle" its done
  22. Thanks I think its the new MS2021 "Sea Sim" But with Mr. H @Ken Hall involved, I go weak at the knees thinking about some of the possibilities
  23. Nicely done Andreas, nicely done indeed I enjoyed your flight very much. Thank you for sharing it with us. Happy skies Pete
