  1. Excellent one Carlos Cheers Pete
  2. Thanks Martyn Cheers Pete Thanks Adam You really feel like you were there after flying around for a half hour or so. Cheers Pete Thank you Iain Cheers Pete Thanks Taph Appreciate it! Cheers Pete "Be still my racing heart !!" I was really expecting something ....... memorable But thank you . I am really pleased you enjoyed it! See you Pete Thanks John I think it's all in the wrist action! Cheers Pete Thanks Bernd Absolutely !!!! Two of the best things in life Cheers Pete Thanks John Appreciate it Cheers Pete Thanks Mike See you Pete Thanks Wayne It is and the Edgley is the perfect way to experience it Cheers Pete
  3. Thanks John Cheers Pete Thank you John Appreciate it! Cheers Pete Thanks Bernd For me lately its starting to be a bit of so much to explore in the world, so little time. And I agree with you . Without Orbx mesh it almost isn't worth paying a visit. With it ....priceless! Cheers Pete Thanks Mike Cheers Pete Thanks Wayne It really is a magical place Can't wait t see what it will be like with 5m LOD Cheers Pete Thanks Graeme I'm pleased you enjoyed it Cheers Pete Thanks Adam! Cheers Pete
  4. Hi Roger @Rodger Pettichord If folks like the above then maybe it could just morph into This weeks meaningless topic .... "Strange little sayings unique to your part of the world" Cheers Pete
  5. We're not immune ..... 1) Scoot on over 2) It's not rocket science 3) I'm not a big fan 4) Mystery meat .... I grew up hating "SPAM" although I have to admit with loads of ketchup (its a vegetable) and several beers it hides the taste 5) Long in the tooth 6) "Keeper" 7) "Canadian Bacon" - I have to admit this one is confusing to me 8) Monday morning quarterback 9) "Bought the farm" - describes my flying to a "T" 10 "Cattywampus" - When I worked in Texas I had a friend who used it all the time. Finally I asked here what it meant and she said "oh, just a little out of whack in a nice way .... just like you!" I was never sure if it was a + or a - 11 Or you gotta be Canadian ... " I'm gonna make a quick trip to Timmies and grab me a box of Timbits to go with my double double" 12 And finally "Molson muscle" - not from lifting the pint to your lips but from the after effects on your profile when viewed sideways ! Cheers Pete
  6. Thanks Craig It is the default C208B .... The livery I found at flightsim.to. If possible I like to fly with a livery of the country that I am in. The performance enhancement package is much like the A320NX FBW work. Not as extensive of course but fixes all of the issues, especially the steering. Front wheel actually turns and it is really maneuverable . Handles beautifully when flying. For an "armchair pilot" like myself it is all that I need and want. The Orbx mesh really does do wonders here. It is really well done Cheers Pete Thanks Iain Cheers Pete Thank you Martyn Cheers Pete Thanks JM Cheers Pete
  7. Just having a bit of a "play" with light. I have always really enjoyed visiting this part of the world and for me the light and shadows throughout the day are one of the aspects I enjoy the most. All are straight from the "V" key . What you see is what I got Cheers Pete Orbx Partner Seafront Simulations - Vessels Anguilla , St Martin and St. Barts Orbx Edgely Optica
  8. Just out of Reykjavík, turn left and off we go ..... And it was just about at this point, that my little navmap navigation system did a Sgt. Schultz on me and said "I know nothing.... I see nothing". So just enjoy the view .... Cheers Pete Orbx Enhanced Icelandic Mesh RUV is the National Icelandic Television service, and I have to say I felt pretty comfortable that "they knew" where they were going, map or not . They started broadcasting in 1966 so they know their way about the countryside I'm sure And the aircraft .... just perfect with the enhanced mod package available from that well known "north of 60" supplier, flightsim.to
  9. Speaking just for myself, even if I don't contribute to a particular topic , it is something I look forward to and enjoy. Friday's just wouldn't be the same without it ! Cheers Pete
  10. Thanks Craig Sure looks like it! Cheers Pete Thanks Adam Apparently so ... Pilots arrested at Glasgow Airport before boarding US flight - BBC News Cheers Pete Good for you John, I'm really impressed!!!! With me its the opposite . Although I am getting better at it , well .... this example kinda rains on that parade doesn't it Cheers Pete Thanks Wayne. That makes me feel so much better .... a man after my own heart Cheers Pete Thanks Mike Cheers Pete Right gents!! Now, I'm not exactly sure if this is exactly what you had in mind ...... but I'm ready whenever you are. And if you think this thing is easy to fly, it isn't . It doesn't have those fluffy bits like AP and FMC etc. etc. And my word, you make a mistake and well .... it's just icing and sprinkles all over the darned runway. Heck of a mess to clean up, let me tell you Cheers Pete PS - my handle is "Doughnut Air" BTW
  11. Thanks JM It was interesting the first time something like this happens. My reaction was "what was that" and then you spend the next 15 mins just having a bit of fun with it. Cheers Pete Thanks Iain Cheers Pete
  12. I'd read that the MS2020 SDK now has a lot of extra particle effects. Downloaded the latest dev build of the FBW A320 and had an interesting surprise. No comments on my "driving skills" please , but seeing all the bits come flying off the ground and the dust cloud was .... well , it was pretty awesome Cheers Pete KSBA , Santa Barbara
  13. Thanks John My conversation went a bit like " after you've spent how much on your computer you want to get....what?" I thought I also heard something like "in your dreams ....", but i wasn't sure Do you think they know one another? Cheers Pete
  14. Hi John Pleased you found it if interest I remember that and also in another discussion that it would allow them to better optimize the system, rather than ray tracing which he was asked specifically about I think he is masterful at covering his bases. I believe they said that they have achieved some very good performance gains in the Xbox code and they would be bringing that into the PC version. XBOxX is specifically DX12. Lots to look forward to over the next little while Cheers Pete
  15. Hi Thanks. I think its the extra smoothness under heavy rendering conditions that I'm looking forward to. But to be fair, I run my sims locked at 30 fps, which on my system works very well for me with settings on ultra. So extra fps is not as important as extra rendering capability and smoothness under very heavy loads as you describe Or put another way, its getting well balanced system behavior at a resolution of choice that is important for me. But everyone is different, so I think it comes down to individual preference in terms of performance priorities. Cheers & I'm pleased you found it interesting. Pete
  16. Concurrent with the XBoxX release of MS2020, is a scheduled performance update of the PC version which changes the rendering API from DX11 to DX12. I came across the following article on the differences between DX11 and DX12 or more properly DX12 Ultimate. I hope it is of interest to you Cheers Pete What is the Difference Between DirectX 11 and DirectX 12 | Hardware Times I've added a quick summary as the article very quickly delves into painful detail , which some of you may enjoy, but others , not so much. DirectX 12 Ultimate is the first graphics API that will be used on both Windows as well as the next-gen Xbox Series X. With DX12 Ultimate, MS is basically integrating the two platforms. DirectX 11 vs DirectX 12: What Does it Mean for PC Gamers There are three main advantages of the DirectX 12 API for PC gamers: Better Scaling with Multi-Core CPUs Basically system load is much more evenly distributed across all available cores rather than running primarily on only a few cores as it does at the moment with DX11. Maximum Hardware Utilization DirectX 12 adds many technologies to improve utilization such as asynchronous compute which allows multiple stages of the graphics process to be executed simultaneously. These new task and mesh shaders allow for true multi threaded performance by allowing system hardware to process events in parallel rather than a sequential mode. These technologies actually give performance improvements when we need it most. As the number of objects rendered on screen increases , DX11 struggles because of the additional demands that are placed on the CPU. DX12 utilizes the CPU much more efficiently and under these conditions when performance demands are at maximum , frame rate drops are significantly reduced and a more consistent frame rate behaviour is the result. Closer Control over Rendering by Developers With DirectX12 developers have much closer control over hardware. In DX11 , this task was mainly the function of the GPU driver, whereas in DX12 almost all graphics rendering and resource allocation can be handled by the Developer in the rendering engine. There is a lot of technical jargon in the detail in this article, but if you just want to jump to some of the new graphics options here is a link to page 2 . Just scroll down to Other features that come with the DirectX 12 are: What is the Difference Between DirectX 11 and DirectX 12 | Page 2 of 2 | Hardware Times You will notice that a defining feature of DX12 is that it is a much more intelligent approach to screen rendering by focusing on areas in a scene where detail matters and putting less emphasis on areas where it doesn't matter. We already have been using one of these techniques in the current version of MS2020. The sharpening algorithm in MS2020 is a technique called Contrast Adaptive Sharpening (CAS) which was developed by AMD. Basically sharpening is applied only to areas which have relatively low contrast and areas with very high contrast are excluded as, we wouldn't actually easily see detail in these areas. This approach significantly reduces overhead as the gpu is only sharpening where it is needed and is impact would be visible. So the combination of much more efficient hardware utilization and more efficient and visibly improved rendering techniques in DX12 will benefit all of us. I am very excited about the prospects ahead for all of us
  17. Thanks John. I am pretty pleased with how they turn out Cheers Pete Thanks John Cheers Pete Thanks Adam. It is a rather neat airport and I enjoy it whenever I visit. But every time I see the runway from just the right angle, I keep thinking "Soapbox racers !!!!!!" It would be so, so perfect for that Cheers Pete Thanks JM . Mine as well See you Pete Thanks Iain Cheers Pete Thanks Martyn Yes, not quite the airport in the sky, but it beat's everything for a prime location for a Soapbox Derby race About Us - Australia (soapboxderby.org) Cheers Pete
  18. Perfection - you did it again Cheers Pete
  19. Thanks Scott. I appreciate your commenting It's a wonderful area to fly in. I really do enjoy the attention to detail that Orbx builds into their scenery packages All the best Pete Thanks J^3 I agree with you. This has to be the absolute number one best looking pizzeria I have every seen and the beer doesn't look bad either . Antonio's Pizzeria & Cabaret - Avalon, Catalina Island (catalinahotspots.com) But talk about true to life modeling. Ken & Tim really nailed it!! @Ken Hall @Tim Harris Cheers Pete Cheers Pete
  20. I hope not. But as a backup plan I am very willing to go "dumpster diving" any time, any place when any of your wonderful artistry is involved Just let me know which "bin" and I shall be there! Cheers Adam Pete

  22. I am speechless You realize that now you've just ruined every other screenshot you will ever make When you achieve perfection , everything else you do only has one direction to go Cheers oh Master Screen Shot Artist All the best Adam Pete
  23. Thank you Iain Cheers Pete Thanks Wayne Cheers Pete
  24. An great trio Iain. Looks chilly though Heating system Graeme .... @boetie why that's what woolies are for They're a tough lot where Iain lives. Everyone loves their winter woollies 2018 Ad - YouTube Cheers Pete
  25. Hi Derek Just saw your note. Great advice from B12 @B12 Just a 2p worth. I think you are doing really well with your setup and the frame rates that you are currently getting. I have a suspicion (pure speculation on my part ) that realistically, if you polled all the members here and calculated an average fps independent of hardware, simulator settings and screen resolution it wouldn't be that far off the mark from what you achieve. MS2020 continues to be in a state of flux. We all want it to be finished and we're not good at listening to MS/Asobo when they mention that some of the performance learnings from their concurrent XBoxX migration definitely improve performance and will be incorporated into the PC version at some point in the near future. But bottom line for me is this. They have had their hands full with issues, but they have not yet undertaken serious optimization of the simulator. So regardless of what you buy today, the performance you see using that hardware will be based upon the sim build of today, not the optimized sim when they have completed that final step. For me personally, I would use what I have and at that point when they have released their optimized build, if I'm not happy , then I can make a far better informed decision on what my best personal choices can be and what would be the best pc specs that would be appropriate for me. I know that's not the answer that you perhaps want to hear and its tough to be patient for just a while longer, but I honestly believe that in the long run that strategy will make you much happier with the final result. All the best Pete
