  1. Thanks Adam Too little info , Sorry ! I could ask if this is a common occurrence after viewing screenshots (maybe new glasses?) or a common .......... when ...... w..e, but I won't Cheers Pete Thanks Mike Cheers Pete
  2. Me as well John It was 3 planks one for the wings, two for the fuselage, a little bit of old broom handle for the stick, and the "piece de resistance" was an old scrap of construction plastic - translucent variety, but I didn't care, that was my windscreen. The best sim in the world is your imagination Cheers Pete
  3. Its fun isn't it. Amazing how many times I kept pushing my little "throttle" only to realize "Oops, that's all folks" Wonderful shots, I really enjoyed looking at them. Cheers Pete
  4. And the Titanic when it sailed was 883 ft in length and for it's time could have featured in the same type of descriptive article . It didn't end well .....
  5. All the best Misha Birthdays are always fun. Remember, just like a fine wine you improve with age Cheers Pete
  6. Thank you Adam It is such a wonderful little airplane. Even on a 2D flat panel, you get this wonderful feeling of immersion that only a helicopter seems to bring. And I don't do well trying to fly a helicopter. Just too many things to be aware of, that I forget to enjoy the scenery. But "Miss Edgley" brings it all together for me. It is a bit of a challenge to fly , as it has its quirky bits, but it is very stable and gosh what can I say .... It just works so well for me and gives a perspective on the Orbx scenery which makes it seem so fresh and new again. Just priceless Cheers Pete Thank you both. I am really pleased that you enjoyed them It comes in so many other liveries .... This is it for the "baby blue" for now , but watch for me in other locales. So much Orbx, so much Edgley ..... so little time Cheers and thanks you Pete Merci beaucoup Joe I am so glad to hear that you enjoyed them Orbx has created the perfect little aircraft to enjoy their sceneries . As I said above, it just seems to me that the perspective you get with the Edgley and the subtle enhancement from the Orbx Mesh enhancement, just comes together in a way that is truly much more than the sum of the individual parts Put the both together and Voila! I do 2.5K, but my monitor has a very high pixel density so I have an inkling of what it must be like at 4K. I am so very pleased that it is working well at that resolution. And no, rest easy ..... no cheque in the mail is necessary ha, ha ! Just part of the service as they say. All the best and thanks again Pete Thanks Martyn Complaints, complaints is all I get !!! Woe is me But I'm thinking out for your health and exercise. Gotta keep those ole scrolling fingers in shape Just trying to do my little bit , you know! Cheers & thank you Pete Maybe so, but just think how much storage space the concept will optimize for you. I'm trying to be forward looking and watch out for my colleagues welfare The next "big thing" is Chiacoin and if you think trying to get a GPU is tricky , just watch how much how much fun we will have with hard drives. But since it depends on "proof of space" .... gosh, maybe my condensed visual storage concept can make me a Chia King . Whoopi !!! PS - I have an old 150 MB Seagate from my first computer , that has seen better days, but's it's yours for a thousand. No need to say thanks Cheers Pete Thanks very much JM See you Pete Thanks Mike From your wonderful screenshots you already know how great the Edgely is . Cheers Pete Thanks Graeme Nice to meet you. I appreciate it Cheers Pete Hi Eeros Very nice to meet you and thank you for commenting You are so right about the Edgely. It is quirky, and fun and so enjoyable. I am really pleased that you enjoyed the screenshots I hope that one day, Orbx will create a enhanced mesh for your wonderful country With the Edgely to explore , it would be such a fantastic visual experience All the best and thanks again Pete I hope
  7. Thanks John I'm pleased you enjoyed them Cheers Pete
  8. Back to the regular grind ..... Cheers Pete Just sightseeing ... and the Edgely is just so, so perfect for this. Nice flyer and fantastic views A perfect match, yes , for me just perfect indeed. Orbx NZ Mesh Cheers everyone and thanks for viewing
  9. OK Guys !!! Message received loud and clear ---- I understand , you don't have to beat it into me with a stick "Get with the program" So I spent some serious coin and overnight my new simulator was delivered to me Little larger than I expected , but whatever . The tell me it's very popular . The first 11 models were all sell out items. Just couldn't keep them in stock they said What do you think? Maybe it will catch on. It's supposed to be ultra realistic. You can get seriously injured if you fall off the barrel thing underneath the little seat it said in the install notes Don't worry, I signed a waver for them so that means I'll be OK Source : A Short History of Flight Simulation - Chuck's Overview - X-Plane.Org Forum PS - I hope I'm forgiven. I promise I never, ever will do anything again that smacks the least little bit of innovation. !! I've learned my lesson Don't hold your breath though Cheers everyone & thanks* * to some , I'm still thinking
  10. Something a little different . Leaving Mount Cook airstrip and going mountaineering. Part II to follow .... Hope you enjoy it Cheers Pete Orbx New Zealand Mesh For the "stats" Original composite 15,370 x 7208 pixels 48 bits/pixel - 2, 407,496 separate hues File size - compressed .png (9:1) = 303 MB
  11. Just the one Cheers Pete Air California was founded in 1967 and operated until 1987 when it ceased operation and was acquired by American Airlines. It was founded in Newport Beach , California by two Orange County businessmen, Mssrs. Meyers and Perrara. It initially only operated in California from its home airport, John Wayne Airport and later expanded into Nevada. First flights were to San Francisco for the outrageous sum of $14.85 + 5% tax. Although they did fly the Boeing 737 - 200, this is a bit of retro fantasy, but I had fun taking it. To the best of my knowledge , this trip to Florida was a bit of a one off, but the fun part of virtual flying is that we're not constrained by reality XPlane 11, Key West - straight from my V key to you ,with the help of some Renault 'Pixie dust" for good measure
  12. Thanks Martyn I like your approach better - ha, ha See you Pete Thanks Iain Cheers Pete Thanks Ellise I'm really pleased you enjoyed the little "story" to go with it. You must have had such an enjoyable time watching it come to fruitarian over the last few weeks. They have done a stellar job on this. Handling is superb and it is very frame rate friendly. And it looks fantastic ! A winning combination for sure Cheers Pete Thanks Taph Nice to hear from you Cheers Pete Thanks John The "suspense" would have been a killer. Thank you for taking me out of my misery - ha,ha I'm really pleased you enjoyed it Cheers Pete Thanks Adam See you Pete Thanks Mike You will enjoy it Cheers Pete Thanks Gerold I was thinking maybe the parking pad , but I like your suggestion better Cheers Pete Thanks Graeme It was definitely worth waiting for Cheers Pete Thanks John Indeed it works well. Similar views to a helicopter, but for me much less challenging to fly All the best Pete
  13. Hi Scott You might find this little note I put together a while ago of interest. Ram allocation and management in Win10 is far more complex than I had initially realized. Central to memory management by the OS is ram memory compression which I found had a significant impact at times on MS2020 with 32 Gb ram. Memory compression is an integral part of the OS and cannot be disabled. Of course individual mileage will vary, but in my case it wasn't a trivial expense to replace or expand RAM and I certainly couldn't justify the expense if I was only replacing RAM "because" of MS2020. Unfortunately , because of the world wide chip shortage, my experience was that replacing the faulty stick simply not possible as it was unavailable, which then led to the inevitable, what was available and how many $$$'s am I looking at. However since I use my machine for other projects beyond flight simming, the extra ram was of benefit. Since I changed out my system RAM I haven't had an issues with stuttering , pauses etc. This has been borne out by a fellow Orbx member with whom I correspond regularly who is also using 64 GB system ram. I have not seen any evidence of a "memory" leak affecting MS2020. However for the benefit of the original poster the measurement techniques I used may be of interest (they are available with Win10). I would speculate that if you have a true ML, over the course of the time frame mentioned you should see RAM usage continually increase over time until the system then starts using paged storage in an attempt to compensate. That would result in severe stuttering and you should see hard fault frequency increase significantly in response. However, truthfully I don't have any experience with the direct problem and the only way forward I would suggest is to collect sufficient data for representative flights which may give insight into what is happening. Without data , I think we are only left with idle speculation which for me is not a constructive activity for this type of issue. I'm not sure any of this is of direct help, but I do hope that it may give some direction for further checking if desired All the best Pete @EasternT3 @Scott Harmes
  14. What can I say ... it's my fav Beautiful screenshot ! Cheers Pete
  15. Sometimes ATC seems like they have a mind of their own. Don't they realize I got the new wheels and I just want to go fly !!! Cheers Pete So here we are .... First the "poser" shots. Just absolutely beautiful isn't it? Handles really well, fantastic visibility, attention to quality detail .... its a BMW/Audi/Mercedes all rolled into one !! Don't know about the fuel economy, but the electricity bill is gonna be low, low, low. FPS is fantastic and my gpu doesn't break a sweat. So now is the "hurray up and wait" part. They tell me to go to runway 25 . I get there and then, they tell me to wait. And I wait, and I wait and I wait. Don't they realize I just wanna go ? I know I got the shades on, but I'm rolling my eyes all the same and still I'm waiting. Finally , they give me clearance and I'm off. What can I say .... its just full strength, straight up , unblended, undiluted, absolute sublime , nifty neat fun !!! But all good things come to an end and tomorrow is another day
  16. Thanks Martyn. A very interesting read indeed. They were extremely fortunate Cheers Pete They do turn out well. Makes me realize how much modern lighting engines have progressed in recent years. Though , I'm thinking to paraphrase the song "you ain't seen nothin yet" by Bachman-Turner Overdrive wait to see MS2020 as it moves over to DX12. Techniques available in DX12 like mesh shading , variable rate shading and variable rate supersampling and the concepts around Sampler feedback improve performance significantly and reduce gpu overhead. This then gives developers optionality for greater realism from technologies like global illumination and ray tracing (shadows, reflections, lighting). These concepts also exist within the Vulkan API , but it is my understanding that the techniques are not "bolt on" i.e. the lighting engine and how it impacts with the rendering engine all have to work in concert which usually involves new coding architecture. It's all about implementing next generation techniques without impacting performance. MS2020 is new and certainly has its fair share of niggles , but the lighting engine is written to implement these technology concepts which is for me very exciting. I've mentioned this before to several friends. "I got MS2020 not so much for what it is today, but for the potential for what it can become tomorrow" We are very fortunate to live in such interesting times. Cheers & thank you. It is appreciated Pete Thanks Gerold. Your comment is most appreciated Cheers Pete Thanks Timmo! Cheers Pete
  17. Thanks John and you are most welcome Cheers Pete Thanks John Without TE , I simply wouldn't turn XP on. With it, XPlane still has a solid place in my virtual hangar. Cheers Pete Thank you Iain Cheers Pete Thanks John. I'm very pleased you enjoyed it Cheers Pete Thanks Martyn I read a book on the history of astronomy a while ago and there were some references to the Canaries in it. So I went on a bit of a "voyage of discovery" so to speak and put this together. I'm pleased you enjoyed it. Cheers Pete Thanks Adam Cheers Pete Thanks Timmo Cheers Pete
  18. While you were sleeping ...... Snuck in and had a poke around ..... Liked what I saw ..... Yes, I liked what I saw very much indeed Cheers Pete
  19. Cheers Pete TE Canary Islands XPlane 11.5 Mount Teide mountain and the surrounding area form Teide National Park. It is a UNESCO Heritage Site (2007) and also Spain's most visited National Park The last summit eruption occurred in 850 A.D. , although there also was an unexpected eruption in 1909 at the El Chinyero vent. The 850 A.D. eruption was responsible for producing the black lava flows which cover the volcano and parts of the island today. One of the aspects of the Orbx True Earth Scenery Series that I most appreciate is the level of detail that the mesh/photogrammetry can bring to a scene. Flying over Tenerife really does have a sense of realism. It's a hard ole slog to get to the top , after leaving Tenerife Sud airport. The turbo's definitely earned their keep on this one. Mount Teide's summit is 3615m (12,188ft) and is the highest point in Spain. One of the things I noticed that definitely seemed out of place at first glace were the buildings just off to the left. Who in their right mind would build a sizeable structure that close to a volcano I wondered ? Historically, Tenerife was a popular viewing destination for European astronomers during the mid to late 1800's. It was relatively easy to get close to the summit and the lack of heavy cloud cover and clear air made it a a preferred viewing location. The buildings are actually part of an international observatory which was built in 1964 and the site has been in constant use since for a variety of research purposes. Although Mount Tiede is classified as a dormant volcano ( I guess minor eruptions don't count in such matters) it is the worlds 4th largest volcano. Measured from the sea floor it is about 8070m (24,600 ft) in height. It also produces one of the world's largest shadows at dawn and dusk, apparently reaching out over 100 miles. I thought it would be neat to get a more global perspective on this. So sparing no expense for my Orbx colleagues, I shelled out some coin for positioning gas for the nearest earth photo satellite. It gives a good perspective on how massive a volcano Mount Tiede actually is. Sorry about the RAF folks. The just showed up at exactly the wrong time !
  20. Thanks Iain Cheers Pete Thanks Mike See you Pete Thanks JM Sometimes one gets lucky Cheers Pete Thanks very much Tom I am very pleased you enjoyed them Cheers Pete Thanks Martyn They did fly a lot to your part of the world See you Pete It's OK John My eyes were closed and I think I missed you. I call it a short "power nap". My wife calls it "nodding off again! " All the best and thank you. I am pleased you enjoyed them , even though I missed the experience Pete
  21. Thanks Mike. It is appreciated! See you Pete
  22. Hi Craig I hope so, I really do. I suspect though that it may depend on which company supplies the GPU for the XBoxX (I've read that it will feature a customized AMD GPU ( Xbox Series X Review: Game Pass to the Future | Tom's Hardware (tomshardware.com) ) AMD is introducing a competitor product to DLSS , but it appears to be fundamentally different concept to the AI approach that Nvidia uses in DLSS. AMD's DLSS Competitor, FidelityFX Super Resolution Is Launching on June 22 - IGN It may be an enhanced/new approach to conventional upscaling techniques that still gives you the benefit of rendering at a lower resolution but producing a higher resolution image. It's not to say that it is bad, or unworkable at all. It just may be different. However DLSS will not work with AMD I believe as DLSS uses dedicated Tensor cores which are AI accelerator cores. The are only available on Nvidia RTX series cards. Of course, since PC's have GPU's from a both vendors depending upon the individual owner's preference , I don't think it necessarily means that whatever is coded for the XBoxX gpu system would be the only choice available or necessarily be a poorer choice. We'll just have to wait and see, but in either case I believe that we will see the benefit in future updates. The rendering uplift from the concept is truly a game changer in terms of how much more efficiently a rendering engine can run at much higher frame rates. So regardless of which system is implemented I think we will all enjoy the benefit. And that's about all I know Cheers Pete
  23. Just some good ole fashioned repartee going on. No worries Hi JM It's been a while. Hope you are doing OK Thank you . It is appreciated I am very pleased that you enjoyed it But the real kudos need to go to Ken Hall and Tim Harris. The simply did an outstanding job , just outstanding You might like this little video . It gives a real good IRL experience of what it's like to fly out to Catalina and land. Makes you realize just how realistic the Orbx scenery is. Landing on CATALINA ISLAND with CFI Alicia - YouTube Cheers Pete
  24. Not saying that the peanut gallery is objecting to my postings and not to name names, but you know who you are @BradB Just the two... One of my favourite airlines of all time. I used to travel on them a lot in times past and their service was just unbelievable. How many airlines today, greet you by name, remember the name of your wife and ask how the family is. Didn't have to ask for my favourite malt ... it just arrived straight up as I enjoy it. Makes one nostalgic. Pete MS2020 Tweed New Haven
