Ben McClintock
Definitely wow. I imagine they used something similar to Google's Project Tango to get the initial 3D data. Here's a video of it. Wouldn't it be cool to just walk around an airport, generating 3D textured meshes as you go.

Sid
Wow! A simulator looking like that would be a simmers' wet dream!
teecee
As I see it, this is the future of simming without doubt..How far into the future? who knows.. probably too late for this old guy.. Great vid though.Teecee.

Andrew Harrison
A new promotional video of the yet to be released FTX Townsville Cityscape?! ...............Hey we can dream!
John Venema
This is a subsidiary unit of one of our existing suppliers. Looks a bit experimental in nature, especially if it relies on an Occulus which is a non-released product at this stage. Note that this only shows a small area of Townsville as 3D extrusions. I am sure this will filter down to us as an option if we chose to license their 3D models and base imagery but it would likely not be cheap to acquire and there is a lot of 3D geometry being shown here which may or may not translate to acceptable performance in the sim. Either way. It's something we can definitely explore.

Ken Terry
If the world LC is about 100GB then the world in 3D would be 1000GB or more. Ken
Bruce Hamilton
I think what we have looks just as good, and we don't need any fancy goggles to use it.

Great info, Sir! Would it be cheaper to have the building hand-made by developers? I mean for projects like Cityscape-San Francisco this would be very helpful, wouldn't it? Could the "3D-Geometry" be calculated by the GPU? So could future multi-GPUs in SLI/Crossfire handle these tasks?
Eric C
I see potential here and ideas are already forming, but the key is execution and ease of use. Only time will tell. Thanks for sharing this with us.
