DocBird
Looking very goooooood! Very nice shots, Iain! One question though: Do you use P3D2 or FSX for these shots? Are the shadows dynamic shadows or baked in the scenery?
Iain Emms
All my shots are with FSX only. cheers Iain

Holger Sandmann
Hi guys, similar to the Grand Canyon the vertical cliffs of the Yosemite Valley present a big challenge for the FSX terrain engine primarily due to the inevitable texture stretching and permanent shading on N-facing slopes, both of which can be seen in Iain's screenshots. We actually went back and forth whether to include a Yosemite photoreal area at all but, in the end, managed to find suitable source imagery and Alex did a superb job with image processing and autogen placement. As for the question regarding dynamic waterfalls please see http://www.orbxsystems.com/forum/topic/61750-another-northern-california-question/?p=563866 Cheers, Holger
Griphos
So, those shadows are baked in, then? They sure look nice and add a great deal of realism. I wonder if you also use the Shade program, Iain?
Iain Emms
No no shade program used by me. cheers Iain

Alex Goff
Here's a coverage map of Yosemite, the PR covers the bulk of the valley. Half Dome is right at the split on the PR to use as a landmark.

Alex Goff
Hi Iain, looks great! Which Autogen settings you are using at these shots? Cheers, Martin It looks like autogen is set to max density in Iain's shots Alex, can you confirm if Kings Canyon National Park and Mt. Whitney is included in the coverage area? Kings Canyon is included in the coverage. You can start from the custom modelled Pine Flat Dam and fly east to see the entire valley in NCA. Mt. Whitney is in NorCal but it is so close to the border that just a few landclass cells south is default territory. However the mountain is still well represented in the high resolution mesh within the region.
