Aussieflyer38
You let a big strong boy loose in your house, and he spy's a gorgeous hot babe, well...............the vet said eight puppies maybe more, she coujdn't see them all. Yep, he fixed her right up. Okay it was no accident, my wife bred Ragdoll cats for fifteen years, and now decided to give the dogs ago, and she is finding out that this is a whole different ball game. Even though it's early days, lots more to do. Not my thing, but unfortunately when it's in the house you get dragged into it. She's due the 21st March, I'll let you know how it goes........I'm too old for this sh*t. The loving couple Don 1

Rodger Pettichord
If the puppies are as nice looking as mom and dad, you may have a line of folks at your door volunteering to adopt. Good luck, Don.

My wife has a habit of starting things and then expects me to make it happen, and nope not this little black duck, not this time. Having said that, Mum and the puppies will get the best of attention, even if I DO have to step in.

He's a BIG dog, absolutely beautiful in nature but so strong. I can't walk him, he pulls me over if he gets it in his head to take off, (cat) 😄which is unusual as he lives with three cats, bit of stray tickles his fancy I suppose. 😄 Maggie is the cream girl. She mothers the other dogs, so we expect she will be a great mum.

The vet said no guarantee's. Max is very highly pedigreed with strong blood lines - so black, so is Maggie, she comes from a line of champions. Guess we'll have to wait and see. 🙂

Good luck, Don. Labs are very popular here in Australia, so hopefully they will get adopted very quickly. Adults are no problem, they will line up for them, puppies are a bit different, a lot of people don't want the toilet training thing and the mess. Time will tell.

My wife is the problem, she goes off the rails a bit when she gets into some things, I'll have to keep a close eye on her 😄

Time will tell. Hello Don, as you know, we have three. One is a rescue dog that had failed as a gun dog and was therefore completely "unsocialised". Since then, we were told, he had three more owners in under two years, who couldn't, or wouldn't, deal with him. He had no idea how to behave around either people or other dogs. He was far harder to train as an adult dog than either of the other two were, bought as puppies. One of his party tricks, when out for a walk across the fields, was to transform himself into an Exocet missile and aim, at top speed, for our little terrier. Fortunately, the terrier was very alert and agile and avoided being skewered. Regrettably, the little terrier died far too young, riddled with cancer. Heartbreaking still. Having said that, my wife did most of the work and he has turned from an unmanageable nuisance into one of the most loyal and charming companions that we could have wished for. In my humble opinion, virtually all problems with dogs are caused by the owner and can be cured by retraining the owner first and then the dog. Labradors are particularly easy to train, because they are so sharp and eager to learn. If someone doesn't want a puppy only because they are "too difficult to train" then they probably don't deserve to have a dog at all. 4

Aussieflyer38
Hi Nick, I agree with everything you've said. My first problem is training my wife 🙄LOL, our dogs are pretty well trained, they do most of the basic stuff - except at meal time, I'm working on that. A bit like you, we had a Cavilier King Charles for fourteen years, (Jackson), unfortunately he passed due to heart failure, about three years ago, and we still miss him. Every night without fail, he would sit at my feet and watch TV with me. I get a lot of pleasure and satisfaction out of training and the results. One thing I miss is taking them for a walk, because of my lung situation, that's a nono now. When the puppies arrive and it's time for adoption, my wife will be very strict in her assessment of people wanting to adopt them, she was very good at that when she had the Ragdoll kittens, in several cases refusing to let them have a kitten due to attitude and not understanding what is required, so I know she will be the same with the puppies, (and I'll be standing by)😉 It's hard to believe that your boy, had three owners in under two years, that I find hard to understand, I had a problem dog many years ago, and as hard as it was, you just keep on and we finally got the result we needed, much like your wife. Give her our best regards from us, for caring and her success. 😘 Don

Aussieflyer38
Hello Nick, our breeder friend we got Max from, says Lab's are a stomach with a mouth, eat and eat. When Maggie was about 8 months old, we rushed her to the vet her stomach was huge, very embarrassing, Vet said go home and make sure you keep your food in a container she cant get at - she full of food. She got into the bag and just ate and ate. $50 bill. mmmmmmmmmmm😂 Don
