paulb
A few shots of a recent flight from Fairoaks. Fairoaks Airport is situated in the county of Surrey, England. It is about 20 miles south west of central London. It opened as a private airstrip in 1931, but was requisitioned in 1936 and used by the RAF for both aircraft repair and the training of more than 6,000 pilots. The unit was designated No. 18 Reserve Flying School on 14 May 1947 and was managed by Universal Flying Services. It mainly used Tiger Moths. The school was disbanded on 31 July 1953. The airport was put up for auction in 1967 and went into private hands. The 800m tarmac runway was constructed in 1979. Orbx EGTF Fairoaks Airport and True Earth GB. VH-KDK
A different Lightning in your images today Paul. Another wonderful set of views accompanied with a handy history of Fairoaks, not very far from where I grew up in England.
Stillwater
I like the first shot with the old and new next to each other. The soft modern pilots would be shocked… 1
