Stillwater
You may have wondered for which kind of trip my last post... ... was the overture. Here you are: Boarding for the ongoing connection from Zurich, terminal E... ... into the night... ... and across Lake Zurich. The direction is south, straight south. Here is Ajaccio, Corse. The birthplace of Napoleon Bonaparte, filled with a number of memorials for him. Further south, with not many lights to see (and not many alternate airports to land): The Sahara desert. A pity that one is not able to capture some photos of this landscape during the nightflight. N´Djamena is one of the few cities on the path. Hours later, Victoria Falls hide themselves under clouds. A pity again. At least the clouds open up over South Africa... ... where we already extend flaps over Jo´burg. A nice panorama with the runway ahead left, noting the absolute altitude of 8700 ft (approx. 3000 AGL). The experienced 777 pilot makes it safely down into Johannesburg OR Tambo Airport. And the experienced trip reporter offers some service. If someone likes the full route, please raise your hand. 6
Captain Lars
Thank you Gerold for the great trip report! It makes me want to fly the 777 again, but I have four different 737 flights ahead before I start a new rotation. I should casually remind myself that it's a hobby... Your trip also reminds me of my trip with the Air France 777 to Capetown. There's always a lot of thunderstorms in Central Africa, I remember having to make huge diversions and fly around entire countries due to the weather. How was the weather during your trip? Did you have a lot of thunderstorms along the way? 1

Many "night" themed songs out there, this is a very nice one! 7 hours ago, Captain Lars said: Thank you Gerold for the great trip report! It could be season-depending, although there are no heavy seasons around the equator. I also "have some flights to make", but these weeks are filled with good weather (=relaxing outside with a good glass) and overdue events (e. g. wedding and birthday parties), so there is not much time left to fly.
VH-KDK
A glorious series of images from your latest long haul Gerold. Unlike Africa and Australia, Europe has an interesting carpet of lights to view on a night flight. 1

Asia would do - I remember many flights over Iran and India with their huge cities and airports. Some fine day we hopfully have it here, too...

For some flights one simply has to go big... 4 hours ago, wain71 said: superb shots and flight, might have to dust off the pmdg T7... Thanks Wayne. Flying these birds is the strength of p3d, for the time being.
