Torres del Paine

Here we go from Punta Arenas to one of the touristical highlights of la Tierra del Fuego.

Lucky guys get a flight to Puerto Natales and save 300 kms of driving. But these days there are no commercial flights to that village - that´s why we started at Punta Arenas.

And here we are...

... climbing to las Torres del Paine.

This is how they look in real. I would say OLC definetively needs something here.

I do not have Frank Dainese´s add-on for this area.

But I know the way over the famous Glacier Grey.

Really famous.

And, as you see (or miss) the glacier at the left end, this is no comparison to the glacier additions in Alaska scenery. Wouldn´t it just be copy-paste?

Here we proceed northwards and, just before entering a Dainese photoscenery, we miss the glacier Perito Moreno left of the small channel.

This is how it should look.

So we follow the tourists eastwards...

... along Lago Argentino...

... to El Calafate...

... and its airport. Pure and simple. And ready for the next day of tourism!

Quite the world traveller Gerold.  Cool combination.

You know I like virtual travels. And who knows, maybe one fine day we can see the world again in real?

Very nice set of shots and photos

John

Thank you John. I took the photos just to show the painful gaps to reality. Which also shows the difference to the OLC masterpiece, Africa.

Great captures from beautiful locations in Chile and Argentina. Hiked for a week in Torres del Paine 25 years ago and would love to return someday.

Thanky for commenting, Brian. You lucky guy, already a week of memories! And, as expected, memories that pull you back there...

Superb shots as always! Is Frank Dainese's scenery freeware?

Thank you Lars. Yes, it was. But you had to contact him personally to get the links, and when I tried to get las Torres del Paine from him some years ago he had lost the files...

Maybe it is worth you look for his contact again and try to rediscover, it would be worth for all of us!
