Chris.D
I saw on line that Qantas is retiring all its Boeing 747's immediately. They were going to be phased out over the next 18 months but the COVID 19 has put an end to that. I had the idea to capture the last Qantas 747 flight out of Santiago on Saturday for prosperity while the actual flight data was still on line. Orbx OpenLC South America and Mesh. Jack Sawyer
Nice Chris! So you use lat/long for CDU input? Clever. I use PFPX to generate a flight plan and then upload it to the FMC. Do you fly these in real time or do you use the old chrono acceleration trick?
Chris.D
Hi Jack, In the PMDG aircraft you can enter Lat and Long directly, can be a bit tedious, especially for long flights, then again, all flights down here are long ! Most times I use AivlaSoft EFB (the early version 1.6.13) to do the flight plans, it does the job but anything extra needed, I plug it directly into the FMC. I haven't flown this one all the way yet, only out to the South American coast. Chris. .

Chris.D
Quote Thanks Chris but do you "accelerate" time using the PMDG chrono function? Yes Jack, seems to work most of the time but I have had a few CTD with it. Chris. .

I use it occasionally but have never had a CTD in P3D 4.5.
Chris.D
Prepar3D_v4_Professional_Plus_4.5.13.32097. Come to think of it, I haven't had a CTD since the last lot of PMDG updates. Could not get FSX to run in my Windows 10 LTSC Enterprise. I have it all backed up. One of these days, I'll make this Machine dual boot and run my FSX in Windows 7. Chris. Ken Terry
Chris, interesting, I put this into Navigraph Charts to Auto create the route form SCEL to YSSY and got this. I guess they go north of your route, probably to always be near an airport in case of trouble. Regards Ken
Chris.D
Hi Ken, That route I put here is the actual route they flew with the actual way points, not something I made up. This real data is available from FlightAware.com for most flights outside Europe. Also, the Qantas flight QFA 64 from Johannesburg to Sydney follows a similar path but across the Indian Ocean. So if you wanted to fly actual routes, I don't think I would be using Navigraph Charts to auto create the route, when pretty much everything you need is on line. Even real diversions around bad weather is shown in the actual routes flown. Chris. .

bvdboomen
Isn't that curve because the map is flat and the route follows the rounding of the Earth?
schtroumf
Nice screenshotIt is a good idea to make the last trip of the 747 in virtual. In my country, it has not been flying for a while.
John Dow
I flew J on this flight back in 2018 and because of an aircraft change and a friend in QF Premium I got to sit in 2K for the return journey, the old first class cabin. My windows are shown in this pic. An article on the 747 I read said that 747 engineers always chose row 2 as the best seat on the plane, because the roar of the wind along the fuselage was least there as it came off the aerodynamic nose. Stillwater
Great flight & beginning of your screen shot documentation, Chris - I would like to see it continued... 10 hours ago, Chris.D said: Qantas is retiring all its Boeing 747's immediately. A pity to read that, and I suspect that many 4-engine jets will suffer the same fate, 50 years after DC-8 and 707. 9 hours ago, Jack Sawyer said: So you use lat/long for CDU input? That is the exact way it is done in real life as well, as you can see below: 42 minutes ago, John Dow said: I got to sit in 2K for the return journey, the old first class cabin Great to have such an experience, and a fantastic iceberg you show us, John!
