Very nice Greg.

Can you talk me through the control settings to do this?

Your cruising along with Throttle= ?%, Prop = ?%  & Mix = ?%

then you set T, P, M to ? % & full forward stick, full flaps?

& you descend at what T, P, M %?

Is prop feathered or anything into reverse?

Need to know so I can get into MCG:)

To initiate the Beta descent you want to be about 8,000 AGL.

Slow to flap extension speed and extend full flaps.

Enter a nose down attitude, I suggest you keep at least 80 KIAS.

Engage Beta (reverse) and maintain airspeed with the flap operating and range an well above stall.

Plan your descent so that you can shallow out the dive at make a normal approach to the runway.

Ok Greg

I need another crack at this.

I've had a look at the Porter User Manual & am finding the throttle quadrant is a bit foreign to me,

I am used to working the mixture from 85% on t/off down to 45 - 65% on cruise.

On the Porter its left alone?

"Going into Beta", -  I'm not sure if its the prop lever or throttle that gets moved around - P.6 says:

"When operating in the beta mode, the propeller pitch angle is controlled by power lever
movement between the lift detent and the point where constant speed
operation becomes effective
."

I can't figure the underlined text above, out. Is the 'power lever" the prop lever or the Throttle??

Could you kindly post  quasi 'top down' screen shots of the throttle quadrant  with the Prop/Throttle/Mix levers 'pre Beta", then "in Beta" mode?

Thanks

I will try to get you the screen shots you requested. It would help me help you if I knew what type of controls you use with P3DV4. Do you have a throttle quadrant? If not make sure you have the prop lever full forward and hit and F2 until the reverse thrust activates. Let me know how you make out.

Hey Greg

Come on, come on ! You can land a 747 in Saanen >:D !

Now, I see that you try your best to muddy the flank of your shiny new Porter. I feel compelled to help you :). May I recommend some dirt strips around Bella Cola ? Like Taleomey River (PF) or Dean River (PJ) or Machmell river (PNW - but only from the North, the approach from the West is easy). Of course with a sliight crosswind.

I may take your challenge when I get the time.
