All four Wright R-1820 cyclone engines are humming along nicely and noisily

Take off was a breeze

All is set for our ocean crossing at 150 knots

I will spare you the boredom of a looong, cold and noisy ocean crossing, so in the distance you can see the Australian continent

Hmmm…why do I feel so small among the other planes around me

That was great Bernd!  And you're right, I was amazed at how small they really were when I went inside a B-17 being refurbished in Macon here in Georgia.  And to think the skies were dark with these planes.  It took a lot of guts to fly one of these back then.

Nice and limited cockpit view in this bird

Quite limited indeed, but that was the case with all birds in those days I guess  ;)

Thanks, buddy. As far as I know, most pilots found the B 17 a very forgiving plane to fly; she could also handle quite some damage. When you look at old photos of some of them, how they returned from their bomb runs...just incredible that the crews could keep them in the air and bring them back home safely

Excellent series Bernd and a pleasant surprise when I saw the livery, very nice.

What an interesting collection of fine old planes in the last image too.

I'm glad you like them, Martyn

I love the B-17 Bernd, great set! One of my all time favorite aircraft :)

Thanks Landon, it's one of my favorite planes too. The sound of those big radials is pure music to my ears ;)

Very nice set Bernd.

The usual Q - whose aircraft?:)

The livery I don't recognise. Is it one of your repaints?

& if so, curious where you got the tail motif from?

From the facial tattoos it looks to me to be a Polynesian warrior, possibly New Zealand Maori?
