Passing Little Diomede Island or Yesterday Isle(US)

4.wr4.jpg

Across the International Dateline and Big Diomede Island or Tomorrow Island(Russia).

5.wr5.jpg

On to Cape Dezhnev and the Russian mainland.

6.wr6.jpg

7.wr7.jpg

Time to head back to the US.

8.wr8.jpg

Skirting the Big Isle.

9.wr9.jpg

Showing just how close Russia is to the USA.

10.wr10.jpg

Made it back to Wales.

More info on the Diomede Islands here.

Did this flight on Aug 27th. Watching the BBC World news last Saturday 5th September I could not believe that they did a short story on these islands. So interesting to see the Islands on film.

Boy! :o What do you show us here! I think Wales to Russia, aha, long haul flight. I open your topic and see this small Cessna, how?
Until I opened the Wikipedia article and looked the place up in Google Maps I didn't knew where these shots were taken. Nicely, nicely!

This must have been a very adventurous flight! :D

I though the same: Why does he take the 337, prefer the plane 440 numbers higher! But now we know...

Great tour! Though OpenLC_East Asia is missing here ... :

Greetings,

Thanks Bermuda, never heard of the place either.

Wow, what a trip. Pictures 5 to 7 reminded me of the beginning of the movie "Hunt for Red October". Very similar landscape, which shows us, how close we get to the real world

Cheers Bernd.

I love those shots exiting the mist/fog

Thank you Azkid. The visibility was not the best.

Great shots Martyn! Great Bering Strait weather. :)

Thanks Karsten, never knew what was going to come out of the fog.

Wales to Russia in a C337. I was wondering what you were drinking before the flight...until I realized what the flight actually was. Great shots of those low clouds and of that mist

Thanks Francois. The vodka helps keep out the cold!

love the pics ,that's another aircraft I have my eye on. ::)

cheers Gumby

Thanks Gumby. It is a great plane that I enjoy flying, just have to remember that there is another engine behind my back next flight.
