  1. Well to be fair the expectation was that XVision would continue to be available. This argument about Orbx 'faking' colours in XPlane has been raised before but it has never been particularly strong, because Orbx was showing what was achievable in the sim, rather than the muddy palette that XPlane serves up as default, and which would have made the scenery unattractive, whereas it had the potential to look as good as the P3D and Microsoft products do out of the box. If you want to criticise anyone it should be Laminar because they refuse, for some unfathomable reason, to improve their palette, and worst of all, to actively discourage the use of third party software that seeks to add a bit of vibrancy to the murky soup that is the default.
  2. I believe that there are posts about that explain how to use Reshade with XP11, maybe XP12, it's probably worth some investigation as the only way now to improve the muddy default XPlane colours.
  3. The Orbx team are collecting these reports but my experience is that almost all these slow downloads get resolved within a couple of days. Of course they can resurface at any time but individual cases seem to resolve at some stage. I proved it was my provider by taking my computer to my sister's house a few times and despite 100Kb/sec at my place, I was consistently getting 5-6MB/sec there. I also used this url to check actual international download speeds, and my previous provider showed poor speeds in this app as well. http://www.myspeedmeter.net/
  4. I don't see any reference to the F86 Sabre in the Orbx files. Maybe you're thinking of the Milviz freeware f86 available at flightsim.to?
  5. After following the advice above I managed to get this mod installed and I flew around my local area and also over Manhattan. All sliders set to Ultra except the ones I have Off such as Bloom and Motion Blur. Performance was smooth right across the board but there was a degree of stuttering when panning or turning around especially over Manhattan. So I then restarted the sim and tried a flight in VR. Performance was dreadful, with black frames edging in as I looked around and hald my usual frame rates, and a strange look to the scenery which I guess was the mod trying to interpolate the VCR frames but not succeeding. Now for the interesting bit. I uninstalled the mod and returned the registry to its previous state and restarted the sim. Guess what? Just as smooth and just as much detail as when the mod was active, with all the settings to Ultra, and in full 4K resolution.. And no stuttering. The frame rates over Central Park might have been lower as dense trees always slow down my performance, and perhaps the mod helped to add some real frames to that scene. But overal,l with no frame counter to affect my perception of what I was seeing, I say there was little to no difference in performance between the two options. And with the mod disabled I have my VR performance back. Just proves once again that often the placebo effect is probably live and well and as with soooo many magic tweaks in the past, after some critical investigation, this mod really does very little except make the user believe the perfomance is much better.
  6. Thanks Nick While we are on this topic something that I thought about is worth noting., the mod interpolates frames before and after and then inserts another frame in between and it requires a hell of a lot of processing power to do that and if the frames are relatively steady there's no real load on the system but as soon as you start panning or moving around so that it has extra work to do this is when you get the tearing in the breakups and since I look around a lot I doubt that it's going to be good for me
  7. I think it'll be an uphill battle to get Orbx to adopt a sales strategy that goes against the principles of a commercial vendor, but as Nick says the suggestion will be considered. From the developers point of view, who after all are the ones who put in the long tedious hours to develop the sceneries, a mixing of full price and sales items will always be advantageous.
  8. My 2c worth... imagine if you asked your local supermarket to put all the specials in one aisle so you didn't need to walk past the normal priced produce to find things on special. What do you think the reaction would be?
  9. I can report full download speed from Orbx Central through my ISP Aussie Broadband, including complete scenery packages, at 5+ MB/sec, right through the Christmas period and last night.
  10. I'm not aware of any Canberra city add on for MSFS. Canberra Airport from Impulse Simulations yes, but as far as I know there's no city scenery for Canberra.
  11. Think I'll give it a miss. I can't think of anything that could improve the frame rates in VR, which I have running quite well, and I get 40 fps or more in 2D, and that's all I need. If one day I become a pigeon and can see the difference between 40 and 80 fps without the frame counter, I will return to the forums to see if it's worth putting in the effort. Since around the days of FS98 I have seen magical tweaks and programs come and go and I can't think of a single one that didn't produce at least some form of unintended problem, whether it was stuttering, screen tearing or something else. Time after time, the only stable option has been to use the sim as designed by the developer in conjunction with the CPU and GPU manufacturers.
  12. It'll be to a different SSD so some work might be involved, but all the MSFS user settings remain the same yes. I'm wondering if this frame rate generation thing is all it is being touted as. It might be just a clever routine that simply duplicates existing generated frames and doesn't add any actual content. It would seem a bit too much of a miracle to me to be able to overturn the hurdles that have faced tweakers and developers since the birth of FS. I think I'll wait for some evidence of how this miraculous increase in performance is actually engineered before I spend too much time trying to install it.
  13. No I don't have the second folder. Might be time to delete my current MSFS install and install again from the Game Store?
  14. I don't see any option in GPU-Z to find a program location! Also when I right click on the MSFS entry in Task Manager and select show file location it doesn't open anything, the command does nothing. And I know I've got the right location because when I click on FlightSimulator.exe in that location I found, MSFS starts. Very frustrating
  15. Doesn't work for me, I try to copy the files to the folder where the FlightSimulator.exe is and it won't allow me. the message is that I don't have any room in the folder, which I'd say is their way of saying access to put anything in the folder is denied.
  16. I don't know about that sorry, Nick can probably help when he comes online later.
  17. I think the discount is applied when you purchase the V2 and go to checkout. If it isn't applied don't proceed with the transaction.
  18. You can delete the entire P3D4 folder. Also there will be P3DV4 folders under Lockheed Martin in your Appdata Roaming and maybe Local folders, as well as a folder in the Cdrive whose name escapes me at the moment(it's called ProgramData. P3DV4 should no longer appear in your Orbx Central, if it does appear then you might need to Google how to remove the Registry entries.
  19. This popped up on the internet today. Great shot, it'd be interesting to pop up to the same height in the various sims and see how they compare!
  20. I think you'll find it's an automatic process, based on the coding for the bulletin board. So it's not actually a demotion, just a change in status, due I think to activity.
  21. Orbx's servers were with a massive provider on the eastern seabord of the US the last time I heard, and I assume they still are. I don't have any answers as to why other downloads are fine but Orbx is throttled, but my experience, and that of others, is that some providers don't seem to be able to get Orbx downloads at full speed, others, like my Aussie Broadband, seem to be able to deliver. That's why I say you need to investigate your provider and their network arrangements.
  22. I reiterate, it's likely to be something associated with your provider. When I had the problem I took my computer to my sister's house for rigorous testing, and her provider delivered consistent full speed downloads. When I took my computer back home, same problem, Orbx downloads started full speed but dropped to a crawl after a short time. And yet the speed tests across Australia were all consistently full speed. However, I was given a speed test that actually measured international speeds through my provider: http://www.myspeedmeter.net. That test confirmed that data coming from international servers was being throttled by my ISP or further up their network. Since I moved to my current provider, international data comes through as fast as Australian data. I'm not sure what you think Orbx can do about ISPs that can't deliver their content at full speed?
  23. It's possible that many ISPs and their providers buried deeper in the network seem to assume Orbx is a P2P or Torrent site given the large data volumes. That would be why some faceless manager decides to throttle the downloads, or... alternatively, a server somewhere in the network has a corrupted file and the data is throttled back to process it and then it stays that speed until reset. I'm not privy to the actual goings-on but it has been well and truly established over many years now that it's outside Orbx's control.
  24. I had this problem all the time when I was with a budget ISP (Spintel). I swapped to a better ISP (Aussie Broadband) and since then I have had no problems. With Spintel the download would start at 5MB/s and then slow to similar figures to what you are getting. That would be something I would be investigating because it's outside Orbx's control.
