  1. True! An easy way to test RAM properly is to download Memtest64 and follow the instructions to make a boot file that starts when you reboot your pc before Windows starts. It will then perform a series of RAM checking tests that can take up to a few hours, however there is a screen that runs and it soon becomes obvious as it reports the number of faults found. Much more rigorous and accurate than the built in Windows RAM checking software. I discovered that my random shut downs were because my RAM was failing at 3600MHz but OK at 3200MHz. It can be that simple. Other possibilities are Power Supply and CPU getting too hot if it's not seated properly.
  2. I've heard that the Victorian government introduced legislation that requires all software developers to submit changes to opening screens to a citizens panel for approval. As yet no one on the panel has approved changes that would result in the removal of YMML from the splash screen, until they do it looks like we're stuck with it. 🙄
  3. I guess anyone can draw sketches and distribute them to the public, making it look like a developed proposal. But I can't see development costs being much less than the A380, which is reckoned to have cost $25 billion. So how in any known universe they could recover development costs with a fairly restricted market is beyond my comprehension.
  4. Easiest chopper to fly by far, but has a lot of momentum going into a turn so it skids wide, once you understand that and plan ahead, no dramas.
  5. Any Orbx sale would be an autumn sale wouldn't it? 😄
  6. You can also run a 4k monitor at intermediate settings like 1440p and I think there's one more before 4K
  7. I can't speak for the developers and whether they have any plans, but generally flightsim scenery is not updated for changes such as you mention. You didn't say which sim you are referring to. If it's MSFS, there are areas around the world that are 10 years out of date. Even specific add-ons like Southern England will only be concerned with major landmarks and gross inaccuracies in the scenery, and once developed, become point in time representations until there are enough major changes across the country to make an update worth consideration.
  8. Not sure that is correct. When I had P3DV5 installed, with the same graphics capabilities as V4. 5, its performance was better and was equally stable. Maybe it would be better to spend some time getting to know what V5 can actually do, you might be surprised.
  9. I installed the new AutoFPS that has been getting rave reviews and fired it up along with MSFS. Took a flight in VR and my LOD seemed quite low, even though the sim was really smooth, I thought I could do with a bit more LOD and less FPS. But, with Windows Mixed Reality, in VR the mouse is trapped in the VR window, while the AutoFPS screen sits on the desktop. No way that I know of to get it to display in the VR headset, and anyway can't really use the keyboard with the headset on. So I got to wondering if there's a config file and sure enough... in AppData\Roaming\MSFS2020_AutoFPS there's a file called MSFS2020_AutoFPS.config that is editable in Notepad. Changing the value of the line: <add key="targetFpsVR" value="40" /> to a different value (I chose 25) results in the new figure being the value after a restart of the app. I guess there would be other values that might need to follow this approach for VR flight, though I did note that the other values I had changed in the PC mode were changed for VR as well, so it's a case of trial and error at the moment.
  10. My 3060ti gives me more than enough fps at 4k, in dense cities such as London and NY, reducing the scenery detail slider to 200 can be necessary depending on the weather. In fact, fps basically doesn't change when I go back to 1080p, proving that performance limitations are mostly cpu related. It might be different if you insist on running 100% Ultra settings across the board, but I find I can't see any difference between mostly High and all Ultra settings anyway.
  11. Years ago I bought a 40" monitor, I'll never go back to smaller
  12. Tried it on the monitor... yep straightaway they appeared
  13. Maybe it has to be on a monitor because I see diddly squat on the phone
  14. Well yes, in the same way that if counting machines didn't exist then neither would IBM, but you don't see IBM trying to make a profit in selling the outdated technology do you?
  15. Interesting. I just went to the site and put one in the cart and it was ready to check out. Anyway good job you got one
  16. Check out Scorptec they're listing it at $419, they're a reliable supplier so I doubt it would be refurbished.
  17. Stalled on the finals turn in the Lockheed Electra and down she went, after the usual bumping along the ground upside down this is what I was presented with!
  18. Only when there's a decision to not support V6. At the moment there's work going on to support V6, maybe other priorities take precedence or maybe it's not as easy as you might think.
  19. I find these generally sort themselves out in the long run, I would just accept the install as it is and enjoy the airports, and next time you log on to the computer see if Verify Flies fixes the problem, if not post again and we can try to track down the errant file. It could be as simple as a single texture on a single object almost hidden from view and you might never know there's a problem, so just enjoy the scenery and worry about the detail later.
  20. Developing an airport like YMML takes hundreds of hors of skilled work. If a developer thinks that the shrinking market for XPlane products is worthy of all that work, and believe me a lot of developers do it for the satisfaction as much as any financial return, then I'm sure someone would be prepared to do the work. As yet it appears that none has seen value in such a project.
  21. Probably will appear on OC, but at this stage it hasn't been provided or is waiting to be configured to appear. But I have no more knowledge than you.
  22. Welll, spotted this at the airshow website. If you are going to the airshow in March might be worth considering this option.
  23. By the way I use FSUIPC7 as my control program in MSFS. You just need to delete all the MSFS bindings and set up replacements in FSUIPC. Once entered they apply as General Assignments to all aircraft, unless a change is made in an Aircraft Specific profile. Individual sensitivities become quick and easy to set up and don't require any selection with each aircraft, it's automatic.
  24. I bought the Logitech pedals and more than happy with them
