  1. Not sure if I have a particular goto area but, on occasions, float planes up in Alaska have provided some entertaining flights. In real life being flown into Lukla in Nepal is the standout moment though I'm not sure if that counts as a bush strip. It has a tarmac runway! All the best, John
  2. I'm guessing but, even back then (in the 60's when I grew up), the UK might have had slightly more stringent advertising standards than the US
  3. I don't have much of an answer for the actual question I'm afraid. I remember reading various comics but suspect my parents were particularly adept at talking me out of falling for the ads I remember getting TV21 (I think it was called) largely based on Gerry Andersons series (Fireball XL5, Stingray, Thunderbirds and so on). I had them all including a Fireball XL5 which you launched with a catapult and which, supposedly, had a parachute which would bring it down safely to Earth. It never did! All purchased from the local toy shop as I remember (or found free in a cereal packet!) All the best, John
  4. I taught physics and was still using that as a demonstration up until I retired a few years ago. Apparently it was even more fun if the teacher got soaked All the best, John
  5. Hi Wayne. There is a link to the user guide on the Orbx direct product page. The user guide includes a link to a spreadsheet detailing the locations of all the animals. This link will hopefully take you there directly! SoFly - Animal Locations (Public) - Google Sheets All the best, John
  6. Thanks Pete. Found it UPDATE: Resolution of Sim Update 13 Download/Installation Issues - Microsoft Flight Simulator / News & Announcements - Microsoft Flight Simulator Forums Although all was fine this time I'll save the link just in case I get the problem again in the future! All the best, John
  7. I once had the decompression problem which Carlos is seeing. It was when first installing MSFS on a new computer. As I remember I searched the forums and found that it was a known problem which seemed to occur randomly with no known solution (I got round it by copying the installation from my old computer to my new one and have not had a problem since). Don't know if MS have any idea as to why it occurs. Just leaving it seems to do no good. Anyway, with the current update, I've been fortunate and encountered no problems. Hope you manage to get the issue sorted Carlos. All the best, John
  8. Have a nephew like that. Expert fork lift operator before he left primary school (but only allowed to do it on his Dad's farm!)
  9. I'm sure all have seen it but, if I remember correctly, even Boeing said they didn't know a 747 could do this. From Hong Kong in the old days. All the best, John
  10. Fantastic Graeme - growing up is much overrated I think I recognise the Saturn 5. I had the Airfix version but I suspect Revell did one as well! All the best, John
  11. Back in the day there was an alternative to Lego called Betta Bilda Airfix "Betta Bilda" plastic brick construction sets (1961-~1974) (brightontoymuseum.co.uk) So I grew up with that plus the masses of Meccano that my Dad clearly wanted as a boy (I still have most of it). Lego came later once I had my own sons. A sad day when they decided they wanted to build it on their own When my eldest lad visits with his family he often disappears into our loft and brings down another childhood memory to share with his own kids What a great question! All the best, John
  12. Must admit I've not had that many residences in my time. Some interesting (and admittedly cheap) places as a student. A one bedroom flat then a house that came with a job I had for 30 years. So my answer must be where I am now. I'd never bothered with gardening before I moved there but now it's a major pleasure in my life. All the best, John
  13. Just had time for a quick look and the scenery indeed looks superb. One word of warning. Others can hopefully confirm but, as far I can tell, the Orbx NZ mesh also needs to be disabled for the scenery to display correctly. Not surprising for a scenery of this type which has clearly been meticulously build upon a specific mesh! All the best, John
  14. Another thought. In books about aviation it would be hard to match Ernest K Gann with his 'Fate is the Hunter' My son lent it to me - a gripping read which (for me at least) managed to live up to its title. All the best, John
  15. Now you have the consultant's attention hopefully you will progress at a more rapid pace through the NHS, Wayne. Thoughts are with you. Just back from holiday myself so catching up. Tough question this week. Aussie123 already mentioned the importance of a successful relationship with 'she who must be obeyed'. My contribution is along similar lines. So, gentlemen, fill your lungs, think Frank Sinatra, and belt it out: 'I did it HER way' All the best, John
  16. What a wonderful question. Off the top of my head seals off the coast of Scotland. I used to do some Sea Kayaking. Seals are inquisitive and don't know quite what to make of you. They do, however, have a warning sign if one of them gets spooked. A flipper splashed on the surface - copied by the rest then down they go. One by one they resurface and look at you. Splash a paddle on the surface, they splash flippers and down they go. Then up they come. A wonderful memory of, however briefly and disruptively, becoming part of their world. All the best, John
  17. After the kind comments over in the Old Coots Club I have to give this a try Tried not to see any of the other replies so, here's the one's I think I might know. 1. Red Baron 2. Charles Lindbergh crossing the Atlantic. 3. Not a clue. 4. World's first Jet airliner (also, sadly, discoverer of the effects of metal fatigue which is why we don't have those lovely big windows any more). 5. Really not sure. Tempted to google but - go for Chuck Yeager first supersonic flight. 6. First proper Man Powered flight. Sorry Icarus 😉 7. A wild guess. First 'Stealth' airplane? 8. Not a clue so another wild guess. First battery powered flying machine? All the best, John
  18. I'm a mere youngster and not sure if I'll ever get to join this wonderful club. My new years resolution (at age 66) was that I wouldn't get any older. Can't see the point of it. I've already got my old age pension and my bus pass All the best, John
  19. You captured the feel of the scenery beautifully Carlos. Great sequence of you flying past the Eagle! Many Thanks John
  20. Brilliant set of shots. Whilst testing I tried out the campout utility - clearly I've a lot to learn First spotted the eagle when it's shadow passed over Lori McNichols plane! All the best, John
  21. Lovely shot Iain. I grew up in Kendal so the Lakes were where I did my early hillwalking. You have me thinking about this one but I'm going for the Red Pike, High Crag, High stile ridge above Buttermere! Just wish we could convince Microsoft that there are no trees up there All the best, John
  22. Perhaps worth giving a try anyway. Been a while since I've had so much fun. I think they've cleared up the evidence of my failed attempts to land All the best, John
  23. Had time for a quick look. Installed the scenery into a library as I usually do. It now seems to appear as it should. Hopefully an uninstall\re-install will solve the problem. All the best, John
  24. Just went back for another look. I think I saw this when flying to the airport in testing but it happens with an empty community folder. I suspect an ASOBO problem, not Orbx. All the best, John
  25. Nice shots. Gotta be impressed with the locals. They stick it out whatever the weather!
