  1. Brilliant topic, what a strange and peculiar tongue! What's being missed here is what a wonderful, expressive and varied language English is. Okay so, on occasion, it might not obey any restrictive rules but, hey, who likes obeying rules like that anyway. Stifles creativity That said I was once on holiday in France. Went down to the bakery for the morning baguette. Ended up in a discussion which was about (as far as I could tell) which was the most lyrical language - French or Italian. English wasn't mentioned! As for you colonials - I once heard it said that Shakespear had an American accent and that was the original way that Engish was spoke. Then again my spellchecker just told me I mis-spelt Shakespear so, who knows Apparently he spelt his name in several different ways. Creativity - that's what matters All the best, John
  2. Thought I replied to this yesterday - beer goggle effect is clearly spreading! I actually studied Maths at Manchester (a bit before 2005) so am glad to see they are still taking a serious (sober?) approach to their research Formula makes sense but, in my case, An = several more than I'll admit to a 'health professional' All the best, John
  3. A great topic and some fantastic reply's As for making the gal's look prettier Rob, these days I just need to take my glasses off! However, in answer to the original question. If you ever get to visit the area I was born in - the English Lake District - enjoy. Great scenery, great hill walking, and when you get down off the fells many wonderful pubs serving locally brewed ales to quench the thirst. Where I live now, Scotland, has been a bit behind but now produces some lovely beers. Cairngorm Brewery Trade Winds and Loch Fyne Brewery Jarl being particular favourites on draught if you can find them. In the international class I have to give the prize to the local brewery in Golden, Colorado which I was taken to last year. Many and varied delicious ales. That was after visiting Buffalo Bill's grave and driving past the Coor's Chemical works. Which reminded me of how easy it is to make bad beer, and how much better it is to find the pints made by people who care All the best, John
  4. Hi Carlos. If only I could get the marketing department to give me commission for answering questions like this It does, indeed, have a star. All the best, John
  5. Brilliant. When I was a kid I remember Neil Armstrong doing that sort of thing in the 'Flying Bedstead'. Mind you, he did have to eject. They still let him land on the moon Conspiracy theorists please don't respond All the best, John
  6. Hi Carlos. Somehow I seem to have ended up answering this in the wrong thread. Anyway the answer is that KFAT and EPWA have stars on the MSFS world map, the others don't. All the best, John
  7. My all time favourite spoof movie! I remember testing for Radar Contact (along with Rob). Our 'virtual co-pilot' was nicknamed Otto All the best, John
  8. For me the most satisfying aspect is flying approaches using navaids and charts. Simulating not gaming Especially when the weather is lousy. Nothing beats that moment on short final when the runway lights finally appear out of the murk When testing a new airport the ILS's (if present) tend to be the first thing I try out! I'm sure that puts me down as having some sort of obsessive disorder All the best, John
  9. Hi Carlos. This seems to be one of those occasions when the position of the aircraft is the issue. I just tried loading a flight at gate 76 and see what you see. I then used GSX to 'reposition the aircraft at the current gate' and the plane was moved back significantly. The jetway then connected. Same thing happens without GSX. I have to move the aircraft back from the start position to get the jetway to work. So I suspect the problem is more with the 'start' position than the jetway. I would have checked where the VDGS was placing me but it didn't seem to be working. All the best, John
  10. An appropriate topic for a leap year Rodger! My mind has a tendency to go off on tangents and I suddenly thought how rooted we are to our one wee planet whose orbital period determines how often anniversaries come around (the extra quarter day accounting for the leap year of course). In the future, if we colonise the planets, anyone born on Mars will have roughly half as many birthdays as we do. Anyone with the misfortune to be born on Pluto (still a planet as far as I'm concerned) will have to live for just under 248 Earth Years to get to their first birthday! Anyway, back to the topic. Being serious for a moment - for me definitely my wedding anniversary. I don't often get things right but after more than 40 years with the most patient and forgiving lady on the planet I'll go with that I always remember it as well - every year it occurs exactly 3 days after I forget Carol's birthday One other really significant date - 8th August 2022. The day I decided to stop having birthdays and therefore (obviously) stop getting any older. Couldn't see the point since I already had my pension and my bus pass All the best, John
  11. Hi Jim. I installed EGNT and things appear to be working fine here. The screenshot above doesn't look like either the default version or the one which comes with TEGB Central or FTX England. Personally I would start by checking in the scenery library to be sure that Orbx EGNT is indeed active (hopefully with a high priority) and that no other version of EGNT is present. Sorry I can't be of more assistance. All the best, John
  12. My parents of course - though some say they have a lot to answer for Many others too but I'll just mention one friend, sadly no longer with us. Phil Southall. None of you will have heard of him of course but he introduced me to the pleasures of exploring the 'great outdoors'. All the best, John
  13. Basically we removed 3 conflicting POI's. The Outer Skerries is part of the UK World Update and the Sumburgh lighthouse and Nats are part of our own Sumburgh scenery. ā€¢ Asobo version of the Outer Skerries clashed with the Orbx Great Britain North version. This has been fixed. ā€¢ Removed Sumburgh Head Lighthouse ā€¢ Removed NATS Sumburgh ā€¢ Added GB North KML file ā€¢ Removed thumbnail entry from layout.json file Changelogs are generally available on our discord channel (12) Discord | #Orbx-updates | Orbx Community All the best, John
  14. I'm not seeing any particular problem with the headland to the NW of the airport with either the default or the Orbx mesh (the mesh morphs a bit as I approach but that's not unusual). EDIT. This is with terrain LOD set to 400. With it set to 200 the NW headland does morph more noticeably on approach - at least it does with the default mesh. It's the headland with the lighthouse on which changes most noticeably as I approach (this also happens with no Orbx scenery active at all). Bits of the headland appear as I approach. Much as I hate to disagree with Nick (I'm usually wrong!) I have the UK WU installed and don't see a lighthouse - just a ridiculous looking apartment building when I just have the default scenery active. With Orbx Sumburgh I just see the one lighthouse (and no apartment building). Now if only ASOBO would remove the trees - notoriously few and far between on Shetland All the best, John
  15. Nearly missed this one. About a mile from me we have the Touchdown Cafe at Perth airport so I'm going with that! Not much to look at from the outside but a friendly spot which does good food All the best, John
  16. That's impressive - I saw the circles and was only on my first glass of wine šŸ· Remarkable how the brain perceives things. For me 16 circles suddenly appear then, just as quickly, disappear. Thanks Rob
  17. If you make it to Dundee do let me know Graeme. Would be good to meet up if it would fit in! Do you still have family in this part of the world? I moved up here a year after you last visited (1984). All the best, John
  18. Here those are the ones with holes in the knees as well as the pockets Rob.
  19. Reminds me of the Hobbit - sadly don't have the one ring to find them all etc in my pocket! For me something which is big enough to not fall through the holes in the pockets of the trousers that my dear lady wife says are ready to bin. The ones I think are just getting to be comfortable All the best, John
  20. Having a local airport beautifully modelled is special so I have to put Dundee near the top of my list! Always loved flying around the Pacific Northwest in FSX\P3D. Having so many interesting airports to fly between was great. Hard to pick out a favourite but I seemed to end up going through the valleys to Darrington quite often. I also loved those fascinating airports in remote bits of Norway. You felt the chill sitting by the computer Hammerfest ENHF perhaps. All the best, John
  21. Aye well, that's the quick way of doing it Brilliant! As for men in skirts - mention that to a Highlander the next time he waves a Claymore in your direction if you dare You just have to have the legs for it The finest national dress on the planet bar none. Recognised the world over. But tying the shoe laces is a bloody nightmare when wearing it formal! Me and Carol at our son's wedding in Columbus, Nebraska. Just in case anyone wonders - that's the Black Watch Tartan. And I'm no telling you what, if anything, I had on underneath All the best, John
  22. Thanks for spotting this. I assume this is at ESKS - that's where I'm seeing it. The perils of working on 3 airports at one time! Not sure but I suspect that in trying to solve a different issue with ATC at ESNU the designations at ESKS got changed. Then again the memory ain't what it used to be All the best, John
  23. Anyone else remember the A drive I started on FS5 or whatever it was then named. From memory it came on floppy discs. Probably still have them buried in the attic! All the best, John
