  1. Still carry it with me on the hills - almost pure sugar so ideal for a quick energy boost. When working down the Mint Cake 'mines' they let you eat as much as you wanted knowing full well that after half an hour you wouldn't ever want to touch the stuff again I spent the first few years of my life living just round the corner from the Kendal Rugby club. My parents were originally from Lancashire, however, and even after 40 years in Scotland people still let me know I sound 'Northern' All the best, John
  2. An impressive list and definitely not meaningless, John. However to be pedantic, (did I mention I used to be a teacher ), according to Roger's original post it's the topic that's meaningless, not the jobs All the best, John
  3. My first paid 'vacation' job was with the Provincial Insurance company in Kendal. My Mum was the receptionist there. First experience of it's not what you know it's who you know! Next vacation job was making Kendal Mint Cake. I knew the Quiggin family who ran one of the companies so you can guess which brand I would recommend Iain at least should know what I'm talking about. After university I spent time doing research with the UK Met Office (mainly based at RAF Cardington). After that I spent the next 34 years until my retirement teaching Maths and Physics, first of all in Bedford then up here in Perth, Scotland. Not sure if Beta tester counts as a job! Give me a 100% pay rise and I'll still be getting the same All the best, John
  4. Have to admit I haven't 'flown' a biplane for years. Anyone remember Flight Unlimited? The Pitts Special in that was great fun to try and learn aerobatics in There is one that flies over my house out of the local airport (EGPT). The owner is a great character. Used to fly Hawker Hunters for the RAF back in the day I believe! Used to meet him occasionally before the village pub shut All the best, John
  5. There seem to be two threads on the same issue so I'll post in both. So if you think you've seen this before you might have done - 'Deja vu' I think they call it Here is my 'unofficial' kmz file to show which POI's are modelled in GB South. Hopefully I've got things right but apologies if the odd error is in there. A couple of points if anyone want's to know! The GB South scenery is designed to fit with, not conflict with, POI's already available in the Orbx London city pack or addon airports available from our partners via OC. Hence the lack of POI's in the London area and the likes of the McLaren testing centre at Fairoaks. Some things were missed and have been mentioned like our Victory conflicting with Seafronts much better model and, I just heard, Chichester Cathedral from Burning Blue. In spots GB South places objects which you will see on the file kindly mentioned by airtrooper which are not included in my KMZ file. These are 'defaultish' ships, cranes, gasometers, chimneys etc. I've left one or two power stations (like Iron Bridge and Ratcliffe on Soar) in despite the fact that all we have done is placed some cooling towers and chimneys. We are already aware that Ratcliffe conflicts with Pyreegues East Midlands which is not available via Orbx (speaking personally I'm very sad about that). Anyway here's the file. Please understand I don't have control of what's included. Personally I would have loved to have the Cardington Hangars. Worked there with the Met Office back in the seventies. They were even used as a film set for a rebel base in Star Wars! All the best, John GB South Landmarks JB.kmz

  7. Appreciate the heads up. I hope to get the KMZ file out by tomorrow which should also give the names of the POI's. Hopefully between the two folks will have a good idea of what is actually there. All the best, John
  8. Just posted this in one of the other threads but thought it worth saying here as well. I'm not sure if anything 'official' is intended but I appreciate exactly what you guys are saying and am in the process of sorting out an 'unofficial' KMZ file to show the landmarks present in GB South on Google Earth. Time consuming and I've a few other things on so please bear with me. I would hope to have it finished by Sunday at the latest and will upload it to these threads. All the best, John

Kjaye - there is a version of HMS Victory included, not sure if Seafront Simulations will exclude that or not. All the best, John
  10. I'm afraid I'm just a tester so that's not something I can do! The issue has been reported. All the best, John
  11. The kmz files are not a good guide to what is actually present. Quite a lot of the things marked on the kmz are not in the scenery and never were. They were only really intended as an aid for us when testing. The POI's which would have conflicted with the Asobo POI's or our London Landmarks were removed as were any which conflicted with objects modelled in any addon airports available through Orbx. Hopefully we didn't miss any. All the best, John
  12. The module can be downloaded directly from the Nool website Visual Docking Guidance System | Overview (nool.ee) Might be worth trying. All the best, John
  13. I hadn't yet updated ESGG, Marcus, so checked with v120. As you suspected the trees only appear if Photogrammetry is switched off. speedy2970 we cannot fix this because there is nothing to fix. Please switch on photogrammetry (and bing world graphics of course). Hopefully you can then enjoy Marcus's scenery as it's intended to be. If you have v120 installed as soon as you get the chance please update to v130 (if you bought it from Orbx I usually just use OC to uninstall and re-install). Hope this solves your problem. As Marcus mentioned a more civil tone would be appreciated in the future EDIT - one last point. As a test team we have on occasion been caught out by MSFS turning off Photogrammetry with no warning. You may have fallen foul of the same issue. Appreciate the frustration! All the best, John
  14. Didn't intend to stir up a Hornets nest For what it's worth my Mum called it Scone (rhyming with cone) so that's what I go with. She was from deepest Lancashire. As I've said, hers were delicious If folks call it Scone (Scon) - rhyming with con then I can try and educate them - sorry John If you ever come to Scotland - the ancient Coronation spot of the Kings - the Stone of Scone - Scone Palace. Pronounced Scoon (rhyming with loon). All the best, John
  15. Works well and better than the one I'd thought of which was rhyming with gone. Either way it seems wrong to me as well but appears to be the usual pronunciation! Cornwall and Devon are definitely the places to go for proper 'cream teas'. I'm envious All the best, John
  16. Ah, but how do you pronounce scone There are at least two variations of the ones you get (with butter, cream and jam if you are lucky) in coffee shops plus a completely different one for the 'largest village in Scotland'. Also the coronation place for the kings of Scotland (think Stone of Scone!). I live near enough to Scone Palace to hear the concerts when they have them There is apparently some controversy as to whether you should put the cream on the jam or the jam on the cream when having a scone. Don't think that affects the pronunciation however! Hint - one of the three rhymes with lone. That's how my mum pronounced it and hers were delicious! Any offers for the other two? All the best, John
  17. The grandchildren are visiting at the moment so I'm tempted to say 'anything that isn't high pitched and loud' More seriously I've always enjoyed the rather gentle, lilting manner of speech which many from the gaelic speaking communities of the West Highlands and Islands of Scotland have when using English. All the best, John
  18. Remember watching the film way back when. In terms of reality it's my parents generation and definitely a moment in history to be proud of. Some proper, unsung, heroes out there. I suspect Michael Caine, Trevor Howard, Laurence Olivier, Christopher Plummer, Michael Redgrave, Harry Andrews and Robert Shaw et al weren't among them but they did a hell of a job representing them! All the best, John
  19. Great call Nick. When Kris Kristofferson plays second fiddle (or guitar) you know you are in the presence of greatness! To be fair to him how about this version of Me and Bobby McGee - same concert Oh Yeah
  20. A song I've known for as long I can remember. Didn't realise it dated from the forties however (before even my time!) A classic. Thanks for the reminder All the best, John
  21. As mentioned I grew up in Kendal, on the edge of the English Lake District. Favourite place to visit as a kid was the Eskdale valley where my folks would take us camping at Brotherilkeld Farm. Just a farmers field in those days, no facilities, but a river to play in and streams to dam The best bit, however, was the Ravenglass and Eskdale Railway (L'aal Ratty). My Mum and Dad would put my sister and myself on at one end and pick us up at the other. They got 40 mins of peace and quiet, my sister had an annoying little brother to look after, and I ended up with memories to last a lifetime. I still visit occasionally and it's one of those places where the years fall away! And there are plenty of years! As a kid I remember the excitement when a new engine arrived - the River Mite. It celebrated it's 50th anniversary in 2017 Here it is in action. All the best, John
  22. Memories I grew up in Kendal about 50 miles North of Blackpool. I remember being taken by my parents to the illuminations (lots of lights on buildings, trams etc). Magic when you are a wee kid! Usually we just got down to the Morecambe illuminations - not quite as impressive Edit, just saw Iain's post - we clearly grew up not far from each other! All the best, John
  23. I tend to mention Flight Simulation as 'my Anorak thing' - usually elicits what can best be described as polite disinterest My wife enjoys a bit of peace and quiet when I'm 'flying' so all is good. My boys used to enjoy flying under bridges and between skyscrapers despite me explaining it wasn't a game You never know where things will lead. I'm a bit late replying because I've been visiting my youngest son Pete and his family out in the States (Omaha, Nebraska). He is now flying for United Airlines and I can have far more intelligent conversations with him because of the knowledge I've accumulated over years of simming. It also means that we get standby privileges on United flights (free but no guaranteed seat and only hand luggage). Makes flying for real a bit of an adventure! We made it from Edinburgh Scotland to Newark NJ without a problem but were struggling to find flights to Omaha. The closest we could get was Des Moines Iowa. No problem. Pete borrowed a plane and picked us up. He even let me fly it for a bit. Here we are finally arriving in Omaha Not looking at my best but we had been travelling for 26 hrs! I've rambled off topic but if Pete is okay with my simming then that's good enough for me All the best, John
  24. I'm on 13 - but have probably forgotten most of the others
