  1. Lovely pics. I never knew it rained in Oz. Always seems to be in bright sunshine all year round
  2. Great pics but was looking forward to the scenery of the Grampians in Scotland. Never mind, heading up there next week for a few days in Dundee, my birthplace so will see the hills in real life
  3. My wife informed me this morning that Tears for Fears are making a new album. Looking forward to hearing that.
  4. Great atmospheric shots. Not flown during one of the recent storms I assume?
  5. In a similar vein. a guy gets pulled over late at night by a cop with a speed gun. He lowers the window and speaks to the officer. "You were doing 85mph sir". "No I was not, it was around 70mph" replies the driver. "I can assure you the speed is calibrated correctly and it showed 85mph". Once again the driver remonstrated "No way was I above 73mph". At which point his wife leaned across and said to the officer "Sorry sir, he always gets argumentative when he's had four or five pints"........................................
  6. Pakistan for scenery - the Hindu Kush, K2, Nanga Parbat, the Kyhber pass to name but a few. Thailand for food Netherlands for beer and the crazy but extremely friendly Dutch natives
  7. A picture of wisdom as a result of one beer too many. A litany of woes caused by one beer too few. A loveable guy as I see my late father's reflection in the mirror.
  8. I used to tease my cat Dennis (the menace) by poking my fingers between the cushions on our sofa, diligently pulling them away before he could claw them, however my unsuspecting late father in law had his fingers between the cushions when Dennis thought "I'll have them" and sure enough he did, much to the chagrin of my father in law.
  9. I played golf until I took early retirement when I was 55. Instead of using the time trying to get my handicap down to single figures (was a creditable 11 at the time), I decided to fulfil my lifelong ambition of getting my PPL. I then had a share in a Grumman Cheetah for several years until one of the group decided to rearrange the wings on an aborted take off from Barton airfield on the outskirts of Manchester. I then turned to cycling to help keep the weight off and at the age of 67 I get in around 300 miles each month, and thus don't feel guilty having a beer or two in the evening.
  10. Reminded me of an occasion a couple of years ago when I was the back seat in my group share Grumman Cheetah. Made the mistake of having a coffee prior to our one hour flight back to base. Could not stop thinking about it but said nothing to the instructor and group member who was PIC. Arrived back and was unable to walk the urge to pee was so bad and I ended up relieving myself at the side of the fuselage. Since then I have been known as Captain Slackbladder.
  11. Great shots. The rendition of Denpasar is very good. Have landed there and also at Lombok in real life but no further east.
  12. Meigs Field. That's where I had my first taste of landing at an airport with scenery. Great fun.
  13. EGPH. Took my first commercial flight from there as well as my first flight in a GA aircraft. It's also the airport I normally use when travelling back and forth to see family up north. In fact my first flight was in a chipmunk at RAF Leuchars when I was in the Air Training Corps. I remember it vividly - that's when they had English Electric Lightings which patrolled the North Sea and ensured the Russians stayed out of UK airspace They regularly went up in pairs around midnight which thrilled me as a youngster to hear them roar off into the distance.
  14. I remember QB Terry Bradshaw from my time in the States (1977-79). I was living in Washington DC where the fans detested Bradshaw because he was so good. I recall the Steelers were a very strong team back then.
  15. As a youngster I spent a lot of time consuming beer but found it involved a lot of falling down which had nothing to do with arthritis.
  16. Football - as it is rightly known, not soccer was my favourite sport for several decades however in my opinion the huge salaries the players get nowadays has tainted the game for me. No longer are players at your favourite club for the whole of their careers so do not have the same affiliation as the long suffering fans. Major cycling events - especially the main three, Tour de France, Giro d'Italia and La Vuelta Espania are what I look forward to, but even then having read a number of books on the extent of doping, leaves me to wonder if the riders are genuinely "clean". Any form of beer is suitable when watching sport, especially when combined with potato crisps (chips in the non-English speaking parts of the world
  17. Flew into and out of Glasgow a few weeks back and the terminal was as quiet as these great shots.
