  1. Have been playing around a bit with the C-130 in P3D and have started trying to copy a few of the practice 'assault landings' that actual USAF and ANG herc pilots make in real life, and so it turned out that one of them was in NorCal right on the edge of Nevada/CA and of course it was a small airfield that Neil made for NorCal. I was a guy that got to study the art & craft of making these freeware airports under the demanding eye of Neil. Larry made way more of them, over a hundred probably, and not many of mine really even made the cut - a few did, which was cool. Neil was just so awesome, so patient and so kind - even while he was coaching you up. I guess it will be 5 years in November. Neil, thanks for all you did, sir. We are still enjoying your work and your attention to detail.
  2. I remember spotting it once, when I was deployed down there as part of a P3 crew. Walked in and looked around - somebody playing music. Staff was nice, said Jimmy would come in from time to time. That was before the whole thing really took off. In fact, I think I did ask if they sold T-shirts and they were out - but I could be misremembering, it has been 30+ years now. I'll be stopping in at Margaritaville resort in South Padre Island TX in a couple weeks, when I am down there, to pay my respects. Changes in latitudes, changes in attitudes. If we couldn't laugh, we would all go insane.
  3. 23 years on Sunday. Probably fortunately that we are still married, after all the cash I've forked over to Orbx over the years, lol!
  4. Well, I guess I don't really have a valid excuse to miss this one, since it is going to be right here where I live. Home | FlightSimExpo 2023 Let's just keep this thread open for folks planning to attend, if possible - I am sure forum attendants will be along shortly to move it to the correct location. I'll take a few days off, just to get down there and see if I can place some names with some faces. Maybe we can meet up for a cold beverage somewhere. In fact, if there is some interest, we can organize a side trip over to the NASA flight center - it isn't that far from where the convention will be held. Ripcord
  5. Rest in Peace, TeeCee. Ken, thanks for let us know. This is sad news.
  6. And boom, there it is... Orbx making a new map for DCS. I found it odd that Orbx is keeping so quiet about it, now that DCS has announced it. Maybe that is in the works.
  7. Sorry, what? I know you didn't mean this the wrong way, but I almost let it irritate me. F737NG said it much better. Let me just add this: This is an accomplished developer trying to survive a very trying time, in a situation that nobody asked for or supports, outside the Kremlin. YES. Buy the damn scenery from DD. Buy two. This guy needs some support right now.
  8. OK let's keep Eugene on task with the AsiaLC project. Invasion by the Red Army is not a valid excuse! Seriously - might be a good idea to set him up in the UK office for a few weeks.... nothing to costly, but he's a proven contributor and we do need to keep him gainfully employed on this LC work! Thanks for keeping P3D in the pipeline. MSFS is nice and all, but.... well, you know. Thanks.
  9. Iain, there is a sign in the photo saying it is Yellowstone Airport, MT. This looks like KWYS, is it not?
  10. Was just thinking about all you guys the other day. Figured I'd stop in and just say hello. Haven't moved to MSFS so not really actively shopping much with Orbx these days but still hoping for an odd P3Dv4 offering here and there - and really, you just gotta love this community here. Have been enjoying some FTX Australia recently and really, as always, I like to try to go back to fly the ones I've not been to in some time. With over 100 of them, I generally have a good selection of airports that seen almost like new.
  11. Real Estate is local. What is true in Seattle or SF is not true in Houston and Atlanta, etc. And again, I will attempt to make my point that there simply is not enough supply out there. They stopped building houses for everybody with a pulse. We had a glut of inventory from 2009-2012. Since then demand has outpaced supply. So if you are expecting a massive crash, just because it happened in 2008-2009, well... I don't see it happening unless there is some massive glut of housing out there that nobody is aware of.
  12. Price is the point where supply and demand intersect. At a certain point, you are unwilling to sell me your goods (supply elasticity) and I am willing to buy it only up to a certain point (elasticity of demand). It is the science of human behavior. It is apparent, like gravity. I don't know the situation in the UK but I will tell you, Nick, my goal is to become a landlord here. It will provide income for me and a place to live for some family that is not (yet) ready for home ownership. But here in the US, the 'system' is set up to promote personal home ownership to as may people as possible and there are a lot of programs and support mechanisms for this. There is a growing gap now, not as many people as before are qualifying and, again, I asset that it comes down to a real dearth of lower priced supply.
  13. The key word is market. There is a market for Real Estate. And that means supply and demand. Demand has been steady - people need a place to live, and always will. If more people are moving to your area, then demand is increasing. The problem that nobody wants to talk about is supply. Builders are not interested in cranking out mass quantities of affordable housing. Not profitable, so the new stuff is priced right around the median. Again, cannot fault them on that. So a LOT of working class folks are stuck as renters. It is a big problem in the US and I would say it is not unrelated to many of the other 'problems of the day' that the public/media does seem to want to discuss - homelessness, wealth inequity, people hitting retirement without adequate savings, and yes, taxes. We better figure out the housing supply thing soon.
  14. Iain's Final Shots. This feels right - once again the world makes sense, just for a moment or two, in any case.
  15. Help me understand this - I guess Orbx is not going to do their version for MSFS?
  16. I know I gripe a lot about having fewer new products being offered for P3D than MSFS, but I do understand it - and I like that Orbx is continually/gradually reworking their old classics and giving them new life in MSFS. I applaud you for that. It is good to know all that is going to be there for me when I do finally decide to make the jump over, later when the sim is more fully baked.
  17. That's great news. Looking forward to ESSB as well. Thanks for continuing to support P3D... many of us prefer simulators that are actually done.
  18. I was about to object to your comment, Ron... then I realized I also don't understand bespoke. evidently it means ' custom-made '.... so how 'about that? learned me some proper English today, didn't I?
  19. Two comments... This airport has been needing some attention for many years - I had always hoped Orbx would do this one. Very good choice. It will be among the first that I purchase when I eventually move to the new MSFS. Second, wow... this is the whole city! It appears to be two products in one - the city and the airport! Incredible. What a massive project, Marcus...! Amazing.
  20. Love it. Keep these conversions going, boys.... I am going to want my Orbx environment ready and there waiting for me when I finally make the move.
  21. I would love for Orbx to roll in and seriously dominate the regional airports of France offerings. I'd support that effort.
  22. Hmmm... I'll have some of that, thank you. Oh crap, it is for MSFS only. Damn, I just bought it. Oh well, it will be there waiting for me when I eventually make the transition.
  23. I will be purchasing this to round out the collection. Planning on about another good year of P3D and then it's probably on to a more mature MSFS by 2022.
