  1. Hello,

on the subject of the X Plane 12 log.txt file.

If it has grown to an enormous and unmanageable size, 4MB would be enormous, 4GB would be highly unlikely,

the answer is to delete it.

X Plane 12 will simply create another one when you next open it.

Open X Plane 12 and run the process that you are having trouble with and once the error has manifested itself,

close X Plane 12  and then take a copy of the new and sensibly sized log.txt file.

At that stage, it should no more than about 50 kB, at least under Windows, it is.

If you attach that and your current scenery_packs.ini file to your next post, I am sure that advice

    will be forthcoming.

Of course, your other alternative is to send in a support ticket, including all the information

and the log and .ini file.

You could even link to this topic.

  2. Hello,

as Doug has already told you, Global Vector for P3D v5 has no effect on airports at all.

The airport elevation correction element has been completely removed.

This is not because it is no longer needed, it is for two other reasons.

One, LM have revised pretty much all of their airports and the Orbx Vector data no longer matches them.

Two, LM have revised the way that their "flattens" work, which results in the effect that you see in your last screen shot.

  3. Hello,

I did the same as you and see the Orbx scenery.

Please make sure that the scenery appears in your scenery_packs.ini file.

With nothing else installed, it should, I think, look exactly like this:

  4. Hello,

the six folders marked as "Applications" are things that are designed to be installed, not to be copied and pasted into your computer.

You should remove them from the Community folder and put them somewhere else.

You can then right click on each one and select "Run as an Administrator".

They will each tell you what they want to install and at that stage, you can either let them carry on or close them with no effect on your PC at all.

  5. We are told that the owner of PMDG owns, or owned, a DC3 and in fact, I have seen

the real thing on its visit to Duxford along with many others.

Yet, for no explicable reason, even they have not made one.

So far, I think, there have been, in order of quality

    1. the default FS 2004 version

    2. the default FSX version, essentially exactly the same thing

    3. the AH version, as far as I am aware, the only payware and even that is now free.

    4. the DDW version, which is indeed head and shoulders above all that went before it.

  6. Hello,

to date, A2A have not released anything for MSFS.

The PMDG DC 6 was released for MSFS in June 2021 and it is well up to the standard that we have all come to expect.

As ever, the DC3/C47 remains neglected. No one has a version, quality or otherwise.

There is talk of an Aeroplane Heaven version and of a version for the 40th anniversary update of MSFS, apparently due

next month. There is little or nothing to read about them.

Undoubtedly, the best version for FSX and P3D was the freeware DDW version but that team is disbanded and there will

not be an MSFS version, we are told.

  7. Hello,

because of the way that the airport was modelled, we are told that this is not possible.

Would you like to refund your second purchase?

If so please submit a support ticket, here.

    EDIT:

apologies, this is the wrong answer.

    The correct answer is this:

that the airport is by Gaya Simulations, over which Orbx have no control
and who have stated that their products comply with the SDK and that they will not be making any changes.

  8. Hello Don,

Windows 11 from Windows 10 is probably the least dramatic update to Windows in many years.

It was more of tuning of the Graphical User Interface, the bit that appears on the screen, than a radical change.

It started with Windows 8, by which, like most people, I was at first taken by surprise.

The use of tiles in the start menu, instead of a list, was the focus of most complaints.

There has been a gradual move towards icons, another word for tiles and now that I finally have an Android mobile

phone and an Android satnav in my car, I understand their value.

The real changes in Windows 11 have been to the way that it works, the bit that you cannot see on the screen.

When I was little, a telephone was a two-piece device, connected by wires to the ground and which only made calls

outside the village if you dialled the operator and asked them to connect you.

This they did by physically moving wires from one plug to another and by speaking to other operators around the country.

Difficult calculations were made on a slide rule and easy ones on a piece of paper, using a pencil.

A loaf of bread cost 9d and the village roads and population were safe enough for my mother to send a six-year-old me to the shop to buy one for her.

For £1, you could buy 26 loaves and have sixpence change.

Today, one loaf of bread typically costs £1.24

When I was 12, you could buy five gallons, nearly 23 litres, of petrol and have fivepence change out of £1.

Today's price for one litre is £1.90, so the same transaction would cost £43.70.

On the downside, if you had a bank account, the bank was only open for four hours a day, Monday to Friday, and closed at weekends.

Outside those hours, you had no access to your own money at all and inside those hours, there was always a long queue for the tellers.

We used to use something called "cash" instead.

Some people used to keep theirs under the bed.

"Cash" would buy things 24/7, although on Christmas Day and other Bank (Public) Holidays, shops actually closed and gave their staff a day off.

Things change and we have had to change with them.

I find that the easiest way, is to just go with the flow.

  9. Hello,

it looks like you now have two versions of X Plane 11.

Orbx Central will be able to see both of your installations, which will

both appear in its drop-down menu at the top.

This is likely to further complicate the situation, especially

if you apply changes to one version and then look at the other, expecting to see them.

    Fix.

First, close Orbx Central, making sure that it is closed and not just minimised to the taskbar.

Secondly, take the H:\X-Plane11-55\X Plane\Custom Scenery folder out of X Plane altogether and put it somewhere very safe.

I would strongly recommend that you then delete the copy of X Plane 11 that you consider to be "corrupt".

    Go to C:\Users\your user name\AppData\Local\x-plane_install_11.txt.

Open it with Notepad and delete all of the text.

Then run your remaining version of X Plane and its location will be automatically written back into that file.

Put your saved Custom Scenery folder back into the copy of X Plane 11 that remains.

Finally, open Orbx Central , select what should now be the only entry of X Plane 11 and run

    Orbx Central\Settings\Help\Sync Simulator.

This should solve your problems, unless you deleted your copy of Oregon.

If you did, open Orbx Central and install it into X Plane 11, where all of your other products are.

Completing these actions has an even chance of success.

Even if it does not, they should tidy up your installation(s) and give you a fresh point from which to start.

    Note.

The arrows indicate that what you are looking at is a link and not the actual files.

The lack of an arrow reveals that you are looking at the actual files and not a link.

  10. Hello Sarah,

when using Orbx Central, there are two choices of where to install X Plane scenery.

The first is as Paul has done and install it directly into the X plane\Custom Scenery folder.

    You did not do that.

The second is to install the products into an Orbx Central library.

You do seem to have done that and it is to be found at

    software/softwarebackup/library/xp11 in your file explorer.

If the products are installed into an Orbx Central Library, then Orbx Central creates links to

the X plane\Custom Scenery folder, so that X Plane can see the scenery and display it.

The first thing to do is to open Orbx Central\Settings\Help and click on "Sync Simulator".

This should repair and/or replace any missing links.

Then try running X Plane again.

In the case of FSX, all products are installed into FSX\ORBX, with a few files added to other folders inside the FSX folder.

Once again, you can open Orbx Central and of course after selecting FSX at the top instead of X Plane, run "Sync Simulator" for that too.
