Rodger Pettichord
Hi all. Before the pandemic shutdown, my wife and I used to go to our local Denny's diner each morning for breakfast and a visit with our server friends. Nowadays, we still go at least once a week to enjoy the place and our people. I usually order the Senior Scrambled Eggs/Bacon/Sausage/ & Pancake, my go-to meal. Nothing like comfort food at the old home diner to make the day. And that leads to this week's topic. THIS WEEK'S MEANINGLESS TOPIC: Tell us about your favorite local diner and your favorite meal there.
gumbypickett
I've got in early today 7.48 pm. My kids and their partners and I would go to the Mowbray Hotel in Nth L'ton. Great variety of counter meals. 2 meals for the price of 1 of a Monday night. I would go for 2 lamb shanks in red wine with veg and salad, delicious. Haven't been back since covid but it's put the thought back into my head. Btw A Grandfather for the 2nd time today another little boy. So much for my flying but he's worth it.😍 cheers Gumby 4

boetie
I can imagine that comfort food is great in your winter Rodger. Just checked out the Denny's Spokane website, fancy almost all of it!. My/our favourite local diner is the Chinderah Tavern. My go to is the 400gram Rump Steak cooked rare with fries and salad. We went there last week however it was not so pleasant being hot and VERY humid - add to that the mozzies, they're really bad at the moment! Might give it a miss until the mozzies are under control, the local council is currently using drones to spray the waterways. Enjoy your winter mate. Cheers Graeme 3
BradB
Since the pandemic several local restaurants have closed , mainly because of inflation and higher labor costs .......thanks Joe . Our go to place now is Sweet Lou's in Athol Idaho . The clam chowder on Friday's is very good . Cheers John 3
John Heaton
We only go out rarely - but when we do - it's usually our R.S.L. club where they offer a seniors lunch for $10 and the missus plays the pokies for while whilst I sink a cold Schooner 4

Cheers Graeme Graeme, had to laugh when reading your post. As you suffer from heat, humidity, and mosquitoes, my wife and I are looking out the window at -12C temperature, heavy snow on the ground and more to come today. Not a bug in sight. Ain't it a weird, wonderful world? 4
Ken Q
There is not a Denny's anywhere near here, but my wife remembers the restaurant fondly, as there was one near her when she was growing up in St. Cloud, Minnesota. I did go to one once. We were attending a conference for Medievalists at the University in Binghamton, NY. The hotel had a full service restaurant, and we and our colleagues went there for breakfast the first morning. One of our colleagues was just recovering from a heart attack, so he requested one egg and toast for breakfast. No, he could not order that, he had to get the three eggs with bacon and the works. And pay for all of it too. So he got, ate the one egg and toast, and the rest went back. This, of course was witnessed by all of the attendees. The next morning, as we walked past the restaurant it was empty; the Denny's across the street was packed with all of the conference attendees. And we all had a good breakfast prepared as desired. Even before the Pandemic diner style restaurants were having a rough time and closing. Now there are only a couple left. Now we rarely eat out, though we regularly patronize a number of restaurants for take out. Among our favorites is one specializing in Afghan food called Kabob Express. Another is a taqueria called MI Vieito Pueblito. There's a good Indian/Pakistani place, and finally, after several years, a GOOD pizzeria. Gumby, congrats on the new arrival! Stillwater
I was reading this thread while sitting in an Italian restaurant - about 3 minutes walking distance from our home - that we visit every week since the pandemic (in that time we collected at least one Pizza/week from them). It is more an extended living room that a restaurant for us, and so we celebrated the Chef´s 60th birthday last year as well as the birth of his 11th grandchild last week. But the children need to grow up faster, as they are lacking personnel as well. In addition there is a second Italian restaurant just 50 m away from the other which we also visit nearly once a week. They have the advantage of opening time on Sunday, giving us another option. Good that the distances are so short, no need to wear gloves or a scarf these days. 4
gumbypickett
Wow your lucky Gerold, my closest restaurant is the L'ton casino about a 10 minute drive away, I'm sure your familiar with that place. The Stillwater restaurant is over the hill from us, about a 15 minute drive from where I live. I haven't been there yet.👍 cheers Gumby 4
Rob Abernathy
Congrats Gumby on the new grandson! I'm just leaving my house for a trip to see my newest (3 months) grandson. We have a place here in Redding, CA called Corbett's that has a mouth watering Lobster Benedict. 1
