What to do when staying in Queenstown gets boring?

If you are overdone by hiking, bungee jumping, paragliding or jetboat blasting, there still remains one thing to do when you are in Queenstown: Take a little scenic flight.

Starting up the Kawarau River...

... and then back south over Frankton.

Passing Queenstown CBD, ...

... which is a slight way down from Frankton and the airport, ...

... out to Lake Wakatipu.

The calm village of Glenorchy ...

... is the gateway to some movie stages of the Lord of the Rings, ...

... which should be visible from Lake Sylvan quite well.

It needs some 10000 ft altitude to cross the southern alps here...

... but finally we drop down to Martyns Bay. Pardon, Martins Bay.

Now we descend further down this magnificent coast...

... until a gap to the left. Altitude 1500 gives a little thrill...

... as we enter Milford Sound.

... there is enough parking space next to the colleague. And famous Mitre Peak waits in the background.

Beautiful shots and isn't it good when you land and find an AI mate?

That was a beautiful tour Gerold.

Thanks Jack. I know realize that one could fly these mountains much more radical, following the valleys with higher speed...

A great tour helped by the well informed guide pointing out the many landmarks on the way.

Thanks for renaming the Bay too, if only for a few moments!

I´ll tell that guide once I meet her.

Renaming the bay came easy to my fingers, being on this forum the initial spelling was natural.

Beautiful images Gerold.

The one titled the Lion is simply stunning, that reflection

Thank you Tom. I also saw that reflection and could not resist to use the v-key. Though one can´t see from this perspective why the rock is named "lion".

We did that exact flight in September last year, followed by a boat trip out to the Tasman sea then an alternate flight back to Queenstown.

Absolutely stunning

Thanks for the reminder.

Bob

Wow, that sounds like a dream coming true, Bob!

If you need a reminder of the alternate flight, watch here: https://orbxsystems.com/forum/topic/186797-two-highways-and-a-caravan/
