VH-KDK
Continuing my tour around Mount Isa in Queensland. Previously 1. Taxying out at AWP Austral Downs Airport. 2. Heading for Camooweal. 3. Looking over towards Queensland. 4. A couple of billabongs at Happy Creek. 5. To the left is Route 66 in the Northern Territory and it changes to the A2 when it crosses into Queensland the right of the fence. The main road is the Barkley Highway. 6. Wheeling around to land at Camooweal YCMW. Lake Francis is to the upper left. 7. Camooweal has a population of appx 190. The Barkly Highway was built by army engineers as a defence route during WW2. Over 1000 vehicles a day passed through the town during the war. 8. The town boasts a school, police station, a water bore with electricity arriving in 1952. 9. The RFDS flies in weekly to conduct a medical clinic for the residents of the area. YCMW is also used for supplies and for evacuation during times of flood. I hope you are enjoying this outback tour! I took the co ords of where I wanted to meet the highway and navigated using those little red letters on the top LHS of the screen. Then it was a few miles of following the road to town! Great tour my friend! You might be able to get a lift into town but many of the strips are nowhere near any town or beer.
Stillwater
I am sure I was not the first here to be confused about the famous Route 66 in your post, Martyn. Nice red land, and Camooweal looks great!
