Well, I fly so often to Asia, I would be in for that region first. Saying that, JVs idea of counting the customers actually living in the particular region would be heading wrong.

Glad to hear that South America is next.

Obviously personal opinion here, but I'd much rather have Middle East Africa before Asia.

Dave

I lived in Asia and the Middle East for quite a while both, and would have been a close second to Gerold for Asia 1 or Asia 2. For South Am we'll see, there are some interesting places to fly too, I suppose.. Fortunately, the Samoas and Papua New Guinea have a strong flight simulator customer base so we get these great products from Tim & Ken.

Having spent countless years working in 9 middle east countries I got to say all were very bland. Yes there are some great sites to visit but from the air...no. Unless you like sand of course:lol: Personally I like to fly around areas of great topographical diversity and the ME is not one of those areas. Some parts of North Africa are OK. I look forward to South America as equally I do to Asia just because there is more diversity in landscape to enjoy from a scenic flying perspective.

Agreed, the Gulf or North Africa desertic expanses might be a little bland in an OpenLC type of product. But Israel, Lebanon and poor Syria, would tremendously benefit from the OrbX touch. Flying from Tel Aviv to Eilat over J'lem and the Dead Sea in an OrbX environment, hmmm...

Given the size of Asia and it's population density I am glad South America is going next. Asia will take a lot more time to get it right which would put other regions on hold for longer. North America took time and was split up, by comparison Asia is a much bigger undertaking

Agreed Dominique. Those 2 countries have varied topography unlike Saudi or Kuwait or Bahrain etc. I used to visit Lebanon when it was the California of the Middle East, skiing up the Mt Lebanon mountains in the morning, sunbathing on the coast in the afternoon, and to the Casino Du Liban in the evening. Horrible how that whole region has turned out over the last 30+ years.

Difficulty s not related to population or even continental sizes, Matthew, this is about available digital data to grind.  Would  Asia be more difficult than South America ?  Not an easy task for both but the language might be more of a barrier for Asia than South America to do all the research. Also, I wouldn't mind having to pay for two Asia LCs (there are already two planned but one actually covers Mongolia and Siberia), roughly speaking one for SE ASia from Indochina to Indonesia maybe including Sri Lanka too, one more to the North for India, China and Japan. It would make sense, at least when you know how the landscapes look.

I don't want to shoot down South Am, I understand the customer base argument even if i poked fun at it above but there is another argument. Many in Europe and the US work with Asia which a tremendous trade partner for us, lived there (I did) or even fought there (a lot of babyboomers in the FS community, remember)  and, I guess, would  be ready to buy some decent Asia LC scenery. The Scenery Tech LCs are very dated and mediocre, far from what OrbX would will deliver.

When you consider what OrbX has already achieved they must focus on economics first and our wishes as a second priority

We want OrbX to be as prosperous as possible so they will still be here in 20 years making the best scenery with the available tech

A prosperous OrbX also means early products for 64bit flight sims which are the future
