The Hunua Ranges - just about directly east of Ardmore (NZAR). Fly roughly 100 deg. I use it a lot, as I can take off from my default NZAR and be there in seconds. They do show up - but I think more towards Northern hemisphere winter - ie. Oct-Jan. I've definitely seen lots of them (even around NZAR) but can't remember what season I was in P3D.
