vbazillio
Hi all, This is my first post in the Community Screenshots forum section. I just wanted to share with you the pleasure I had flying for the first (virtual) flight with the Orbx Palm Springs KPSP scenery on my Prepar3D. Despite I'm french, I'm lucky to be a member of the PlusOne flying club based in San Diego area (PlusOne Member @ Montgomery Field, KMYF). I have done some flight in this area and along the west US side. A real US ambiance : FBO (Signature), private jets, passengers waiting and a (animated) marshaller are really creating the mood I choose a regular GA plane (Carenado C182T) and to make the experience as-real-as-it-gets : - Set real weather with Active Sky Next - Departing from one of the two FBO's (Signature) on the west side of the field. The other one FBO is Atlantic at the threshold of 31R - Traffic AI set at maximum for liners and GA to populate my virtual world (I'm not PilotEdge addict yet and much IVAO on the European side) - Use of Prepar3D embedded ATC, forbidden to read subtitle (don't foget I'm french and want to train) The is straight as the route (Skyvector screenshot). Go northbound, straight, for less than 30 nm and 15 minutes of flight. But it's a climbing route. Take off is at less than 500 ft @ Palm Springs to finally reach Big Bear at 6700 ft ! No complex airspace, just a northbound straightout departure. Airport ground charts trains me on taxiing, signs and ground markings, map reading and so on. - "Skylane 78T, taxi holding point 31L via W2 W and A" Here again I feel like in real with the mix of GA and liners. Holding point 31L, main terminal and hundred of small details in the back are doing "the job" Lining-up 31L et 10.000 ft of runway ahead. As usual GA is present on this type of field, despite I suspect they much use the parallel 31R. Quick left look on ground during the initial climb. Airport markings are great, old and used North Palm Springs. Just remember that all around is desert area A quick look back. So sad to be alone in the Skylane. Textures on back seats are great in this Carenado. Looking at clouds in the background, remind me also of June Gloom that stucked me on ground days at Montgomery field on the coast. After all the urban area, here is finally the desert Let's continue climbing. I reach "Morongo Valley" (just find the name on the chart ;-) I left Palm Springs class Delta airspace and was handing off to Socal or Los Angeles (can't remenber) to pickup (the so cool) Flight Following. Outstanding textures and mesh. You can almost feel the heat and dry. Does I reach the edge of the Orbx KPSP area ? It's seems more dark and green... but a satellite screen seems to reveal the exact same. Anyway the overlap of FTX Base Global and Palm Springs scenery is great. The mountain area is getting closer and closer. Straight ahead is 11.000 ft ! With my Prepar3D, I use my iPad tablet with Skydemon (as real moving map and preparation navigation tool). The "Mountain terrain" is ON with the colored coded relief as a terrain warness with Garmin stuff. Big Bear (L35) chart. This field, for those who don't know has the particularity to be at more than 6.700 ft. Altitude and temperature can have a dramatic impact on GA piston aircraft. Here is the sign that bring attention on Density Altitude. The field is at 6.752 ft but at the moment of the picture was taken, the piston engine act as if they were at 9.200 ft ! Mixture is the real key On final @ Big Bear (L35) Behind the field is the mountain lake. On the left side are the ski lift. 30 minutes ago, I was in the desert. Global track as seen on Google Earth. It's getting darker and greener as in Prepar3D. As real as it gets. Great job Orbx ! The global GPS track as seen by SkyDemon. I love the profil view Thank you Orbx for this great scenery. Unfortunetly, they are no real long flying trips expected in the next few month. I've done so much since 2008 like this one done several times with differents friends and planes : or these one in Canada New Foundland and New York or these one in Florida and Bahamas
