VH-KDK
Fred Basset, for those who don't know was a cartoon by Grahame, in the 60s and Royal Wootton Bassett is a town between Swindon and Lyneham in the UK. The Beagle B.206 Basset was a light communications aircraft 20 of the 80 built were for the RAF. They were built from 1965-69 when production was ended to allow the pup trainer to be built. They were a very popular aircraft much sought after by private operators, with 3 being operated by the RFDS in Australia. Always good to see one in my spotting days and the sound of those Rolls Royce Continentals on take off was magic to the ears. This Basset is flying from South Gasline Airport to Birchwood. 1. Lifting off from the gravel rwy 02 with the path of the gas line clearly visible. 2. Many lakes dot the Kenai Peninsular. 3. The Kenai Mountains. 4. Over the north end of the Turnagain Arm. 5. The Chickaloon Flats. 6. Looking down the Turnagain Arm. 7. The Beagle B206 Basset in flight. 8. The western side of Anchorage with the Seaward Highway clearly seen. 9. Campbell Airport. Flattop, The Dome and Mount Tikishla are some of the peaks next to Anchorage. 10. Stevens Anchorage International is to the left with Fire Island behind. Merrill Field is to the right with the Knik Arm behind. 11. Elmendorf AFB with the Glenn Hwy running to the left. 12. The town of Eagle River with Roundtop Mountain behind. 13. The Eagle River at Eagle Bay. 14. Eagle River town again with Lake Clunie and Rendevous Peak. 15. Short finals to rwy 01L at Birchwood. 16. Touchdown and one of the best landings I have made for ages. 17. 18. Mount Eklutna is behind the airport. Here is a link to the Basset for anyone who is interested. I have found this a very good and easy to fly freeware twin. http://www.byteforge.com/addons/addon_history.htm
