Mauna Kea Observatories

A short flight from PHMU Waimea-Kohala Airport to view the Mauna Kea Observatories.

They are a group of independent astronomical research facilities and large telescope observatories that are located at the summit of Mauna Kea on the Big Island of Hawaii, USA.

Mauna Kea is a dormant volcano on the island of Hawaii. Its peak is 4,207.3 m (13,803 ft) above sea level, making it the highest point in the state of Hawaii and second-highest peak of an island on Earth.

The altitude and isolation in the middle of the Pacific Ocean makes Mauna Kea one of the best locations on Earth for ground-based astronomy.

Wonderful shots, Paul!! NOW...coming to your plane :D:D Do you fly her by the book or like me in easy mode :)

Thanks Bernd. I do both! I have purchased most of the 'study level' aircraft available. I like the fact that everything in the cockpit works - rather than having lots of pretty switches that do nothing. So, it all depends on my mood and the time that I have available. Some days, I will focus on a plane and work through the checklists. Other days, if I want a quick flight, I just start on the runway with everything running :D.

Terrific shots Paul!  This was always my favorite "Mission" in FSX."

Thank you Jack :). It's a nice flight. Although my Boeing 247D was working hard to gain altitude over a short distance!
