Nelson Airport on a standard day.  I grew up about half a mile away from here, haunted the airport and scavenged for golf balls at the nearby course.

Taking off to the south a climbing turn is needed back over the beacon to set course for Wellington.

The long feature is the Boulder Bank, a natural feature that protects the port of Nelson, where as boys we used to hang out....as long as we were home for tea.

And then over the Strait, a short patch of water but which can be very rough and at times dangerous.  There is a car ferry (and you should put it on your bucket list), but it is a long windy drive from anywhere to get on it. But choose good weather and leaving the Marlborough Sounds and entering Wellington Harbour makes it a spectacular journey.

On short final into Wellington R16 ILS, note the angle of crab.

Details of the landing are suppressed due to national security reasons.
