Old Big Head along the trail

The RAAF didn't operate the Carvair but there is a beautiful livery available.

This flight is along the Kokoda Trail from Jacksons to Kokoda.

1.JK1.jpg

Some discussion and arm waving as we wait for the cargo of newspapers, lawn mower parts and chook feed to be loaded.

2.JK2.jpg

All ready to go.

3.JK3.jpg

Setting off on the short flight over the Owen Stanleys.

4.JK4.jpg

A steady climb, got to look after those old engines.

5.JK5.jpg

At mount Victoria and ready to descend into AYKO. No cruise in this flight.

6.JK6.jpg

Now having to circle around to lose some height. I will have to be careful not to bump into anything.

7.JK7.jpg

Wheels on the ground.

8.JK8.jpg

Touchdown too far down the runway and much too fast, going around.

9.JK9.jpg

Banking over the Fala River.

10.JK10.jpg

Nearly landed short and just remembered in time that the flight deck is very high off the ground. Catches me out every time.

11.JK11.jpg

Now realised that landing up hill is a better option, next time.

12.JK12.jpg

The wing fits nicely over the building but just have to watch the water tank.

One happy customer with last weeks news. The miserable chooks never showed though.

Hope you enjoyed the ride.

Anyway more wonderful shots and piloting skills my friend . :):)

Thank you for your compliment John.:)

It was very eggsasperating to fly all that way with the chook feed and not to have them show up.;)

You mean to say you didn't hear the news last week?:o

I'm on pins and needles , the suspense is killing me .:o:(

What a brilliant flight and narrative Martyn!  Good to go around too.  And I love the colors and detail of this area.

Many thanks for your encouraging comment Jack. I went around as my face isn't worth saving.555

Well done Martyn! That looks a short runway! :). The RAAF livery suits the Carvair.

Thanks Paul, yes a short runway and I made it worse by landing downhill.

The livery is based on one worn by an RAAF Bristol 170.:)

Yes, it's the old rule of landing uphill and into the wind!

It was a light wind I was flying into Paul but I suppose the gradient would have been of more use had I landed with the tail wind.
